Brian Boyle to BUF

What would it take to get him to Buffalo?

Big center, wins face-offs, would give us a guy to take some defensive zone starts and gain possession (arguably the biggest hole on the Sabres roster). Would the NYR move him for a pick? Mid level prospect? I would be willing to slightly overpay even as I think he's exactly what our bottom 6 needs...

Are the Sabres going for it or rebuilding?

Rebuilding 100%, but I think a guy like Boyle would be a solid piece going forward for our bottom 6 regardless.

Boyle is available. He has been showcased on top 6 recently. But i was not aware the Sabres sent scouts.

I would want either a 2nd or a 3rd+4th (I think the latter is probably in the range that we would get). The Rangers would actually probably request a 2nd + prospect to start and move down from there. I honestly am not sure what his full value is, but I think a 2nd is certainly fair and a 3rd+4th pretty damn fair.

He's our top PKer, a great faceoff guy, and can play spot minutes in the top 6 if someone gets hurt. His offense has been poor when not playing with talented players around him (and you wouldn't want him to play with talented guys anyway).

I like his play best when he is on the wing. He can be a real force there and we have seen it the few times he has played it. If you put him on the wing but still allow him to take faceoffs, he'd be a really solid player.

Give you 2 3rds this year or a 2nd next year and Boyle for Ott.

I'd think long and hard about our 3rd for Boyle, probably saying yes. Is Buffalo's 2013 3rd alone good enough since it'll likely be around 65? I think Boyle could definitely fetch a 3rd & 4th, albeit from a contending team with a much worse draft position...

EDIT: I'd do our 3rd and Luke Adam: Reclamation big-bodied center project who I think could still be a Top 6'er one day. Is that close?

Where does Leduc rank in your prospect pool?
I am just looking at the rankings and scouting report, he would fit a future need for the Rangers.

He's a decent, mid level prospect, but a guy with very high offensive upside. I'd say in order of d-prospects it would be: Pysyk, McCabe, McNabb and then Jerome Gauthier Leduc. He could turn into a MA Bergeron type one day. BUF 3rd and Leduc for Boyle?

Yeah, he's really been everything as advertised and more for us this year. "Heart and Soul" of the team on a team that basically lacks any heart or soul.

He also fits a future need for the Sabres. They're devoid of potential PPQB's now and in the future. I wouldn't say he's untouchable by any means but I don't see the team being interested in moving him despite his struggles as a first year pro.

I think that's a little low.
On the other hand 2nd + Leduc is a little high, we need something in between.

I'm assuming this would be an off-season deal, correct? There's no reason for Buffalo to pay trade deadline prices for Boyle.

Honestly I think that if you went around to the 16 GMs that will be in the playoffs this year and asked them what they'd value Steve Ott at this trade deadline most of the people on these boards would ask how they had jobs. Players like him, this time of the year have immense value.
