Agreed.

Gaborik is due for a big year next year. Contract year and going with that on/off season ****, its an on year.

Im not saying I entirely buy into that, but you cant ignore how odd it is that that has happened.

Its easy to cherrypick this season on him and advocate moving him, but like you said here, hes due next year.

I would not be surprised if Gaborik owns us next year if hes traded. At all.

No other team had camp either, so why use it as excuse?

Does anyone think Gabby's shoulder is still weak because his wrist shot he uses ALL the time seems weak AND predictable. I dont think he is not trying but between coming off a shoulder and being in a system that totally doesnt fit him he is losing his confidence, plus this crap with playing him on his non-natural wing has to stop. We are going to have to hope next year is better as you cant get rid of him because we REALLY need to use the amnesty on Richards who is far more of an issue than Gabby. I also think, like others, Torts has to go as the system doesnt match the talent on this team and he has a certain shelf life with his abrasiveness. I think some of the players are tuning him out at this point. When Hank begins to speak out you know there are serious issues.

I'm not using it as an excuse. I'm saying to trade someone who has scored 40 goals twice for this incompetent offensively franchise based on 33 games is pretty short sighted. now if we NEED the money next year to resign Hags/Stepan/Mcd, thats one thing. I for one think 11M will sign all 3 of them so we could still keep Gaborik playing in his UFA season where he's going to be looking to get paid.

Morrow and Iginla already moved, up front Cammalleri, Jagr, Ray Whitney, Clowe, Hecht, Hodgson, Ott, Okposo (Gaborik) all players names we've already heard (not that all of these players are equal parts, but still a lot of good pieces to choose from). Factor in one or two more teams with aging players that are on the verge of dropping out of the race (or admitting defeat in Tampa or Philly's case) and I'm not sure how you figure it's a sellers market.

Why would any team give us proper return for Gaborik at this point when they could get Cammalleri for about the same, or Jagr for probably less?

Stop think before gabby gets traded

HOW CAN A GUY GO FROM SUPERSTAR 40 GOALS TO TURD-POOP... Something is wrong two guys ( Gabby, Richards) all of a sudden cant score or keep up with the team???.. in less than a yr ago??.. nah something smells...

Look we all know Gabby can score many goals as he has done in the past. I think it was 5 against us in one game.. yea yea long time ago.. so what he still did it..

I dont think any of us know whats really going on. But I do know with this ******** system in place NOBODY is scoring.. and every team in the league has Torts Gamebook..

BEFORE we dump on Gabby, I do think its time to see if we can get a new coach for the remaining games and see what Gabby does than. If nothing changes! ok than get rid of him in the off season..

I am not saying its all torts fault ( cough, cough).. but I think a different sysem would work..

Good gabby story

Good story on Gabby!! makes sense..

Recap: Sportsnet Trade Tracker On Marian Gaborik
March 31st, 2013 7:45 pm
On Sportsnet, Jeff Marek, John Shannon and Brad May did a segment on whether Marian Gaborik is in play at the trade deadline.

Marek asked Shannon if he thought Gaborik was in play and Shannon said “no…..next question. Listen….$7.5 million, that is the reason. The other thing is that I know they aren’t scoring any goals in NY and I know that Marian Gaborik has under performed, but remember, this is a defense first team with John Tortorella running it and there is a lot more pressure on Gaborik, Brad Richards and Rick Nash to score goals. I don’t blame Gaborik at all for anything that has happened there, in fact what they should try to do is let him loose and let him go into the offensive zone.”

May said “This is a player with great offensive instincts that you can’t teach. When you are playing defense and that is your first mandate when back in the offensive zone, you are a lot slower. You are not anticipating, you are not cheating to those openings. When you are focusing on defense first you are not as quick going the other way.”

Shannon responded and said “remember, this guy learned the game in a Jacques Lemaire system so it’s not as if it is foreign to him. He can do the job on the defensive side, but this is a 40 goal scorer. That is talent that you can’t get rid of and they love it at Madison Square Garden. I just don’t see him going anywhere.”

May said “there is only one place, and I am making this up, the San Jose Sharks because of the rumors that Ryan Clowe, who would fit great with the Rangers, and Dan Boyle. If he did that it would be a package trade. If I was a GM I would want Marian Gaborik, but I would want a defenseman coming with him. Boyle and Clowe to NY.”

Shannon said “in the cap world that is dollar for dollar and actually makes some sense.”

THIS SECTION is all about the Rangers trading Gaborik.

Gaborik has been tentative... I'm not saying he's injured, but I do think that he's VERY tentative so far. My guess is that he isn't totally confident in his shoulder, and plans to go balls to the wall in the playoffs and next season in his contract year. When he starts taking a few hits and using some speed, then he will score. Another HUGE factor is that Richards has been AWFUL, and I really don't think Gaborik and Stepan have any chemistry. Gaborik this year with a speedy playmaking center would still score a fair amount... he can find the seem. Unfortunately, this current lineup means that Gabby needs to create some room for himself.

I'm getting a damn good package for him or I'm hanging on... I really believe that 35+ goals in a contact year is going to happen.

IT'S NOT THE SYSTEM. Gaborik has scored 40 goals twice in this system. He's fine defensively, but he's not out there sitting back. Tentative play (shoulder injury), and wrong linemates are the reason here. Unfortunately, outside of Hagelin, no one creates SPACE, which is what Gaborik needs.

Boyle and Clowe? No... That does not improve this team...

Keen analysis of what determines the relative value of a hockey player.

Would you rather have Callahan or Gaborik? Today. Not 5 years ago.

I do. Reminds me of Jagr coming off a similar injury. Definitely more of a factor than people realize

You're crazy if you don't think adding a top-4, right-handed defenseman that can quarterback a powerplay (something we haven't had in a decade-plus), doesn't make this team better.

Trading Gaborik for Boyle doesn't make this team a ton better, at least in the long run, I grant you, and trading for Boyle almost ensures that Richards will be bought out this off-season, but it's asinine to say he doesn't make this team better.

Same is said for Clowe. He's been a dud offensively this year compared to years past, but the bottom six needs someone that can provide offensive pressure AND play physical. He's everything none of the guys we have are.

I won't be heartbroken if we trade Gaborik for Boyle, Clowe and maybe a conditional pick that depends on whether or not Clowe re-ups next season. It's not an ideal trade, but it wouldn't be the worst move either.

This.

I think if you hang on, Nash and Gaborik provide the firepower that we didn't have this season.

And with or without Tortarellan next season, there's not a doubt in my mind someone else will be running the powerplay. Upper management has to be furious that our powerplay only seems to score on lucky bounces considering the lineup we're fielding (and the money that's poured into it).

Chara had an offer from the Rangers (IIRC) and he chose Boston anyway.

My problem with Gaborik is perfectly evident tonight. And I am not even talking about his failure to score on several very good chances.

The Callahan goal - needed it; helped change momentum in the game
The Stepan goal - needed it; put the Rangers ahead
The Nash goal - needed it; gave the Rangers much needed breathing room.

Never may be a strong word, but I don't think it is in this case. Gaborik never scores goals like these. Gaborik never scores a goal when the Rangers look done or out of sync like they were tonight.

Gaborik is way more clutch than he is given credit for.

If he continues to skate like this, the goals will come, and with him, they come in bunches.
