THN Yearbook Eastern predictions

These are not THN's predictions..but they are predictions of 2 NHL Insiders.

On page 4 of the THN yearbook, NHL insiders provide their predictions for 06-07...Here they are

New Jersey
Montreal
Ottawa
Buffalo
Philadelphia
Carolina
Florida
Boston
--------------
Tampa Bay
Atlanta
Toronto
NyI
NyR
Pittsburgh
Washington

They have Montreal finishing 2nd in the east?

They also obviously don't take divisions into consideration as Montreal and Ottawa are in top 3.

I mean, i'm a die hard Habs fan....but 2nd in the east???

Maybe it's a mistake.

Yea they were sooooo stupid for puting Carolina last.......

Almost everyone had them last or at least out of the playoffs.

2nd for Montreal? I'm a huge habs fan, and terribly optimistic, but I don't even think that the Canadiens will finish that high.

If Montreal finishes 4th in the east I'd be extremely happy, but hey, 2nd would be awesome!

also, right before the team previews...they have a predicted order of finish with team grades deciding the order...Habs are 7th in east with that.

I'm having the Fantasy Pool Magazine by THN and:

Ottawa
Caroline
Buffalo
NY Rangers
Tampa Bay
New Jersey
Atlanta
Philadelphia

Montreal
Pittsburg
Boston
Toronto
Florida
NY Islanders
Washington

THN is so awful... No consistency and they made it too early...

That wasn't really THN's predictions.

I believe that was the prediction of Murray Townsend(sp?) who is the guy behind the Fantasy Pool Guide.

OK... but, it's too early... Missing some players, like Bulis at Vancouver... and Dumont at Montreal!

We might finish 2nd, if:

-Koivu is healty
-Huet is for real
-Our prospects dont fall in a sophomore slump
-Our defence stay healty

But the odds are that at least one thing will go wrong...we are a good team, but we are fragile...

2nd might be dreaming a bit...4-5 might be more realistitic...

And don't forget that teams like Buffalo and Carolina might not be as good as last year...it might help us. On the other hand, Atlanta has potential...

I think its a pretty big longshot to put MTL 2nd... but I think having New Jersey 1st is even CRAZIER!!!

New jersey for first!!! With julien as coach they dont have a chance unless brodeur has the best season ever.
Plus i think that we have an awesome team this year but i cant picture anybody but buffalo winning our division. If miller plays like he did in the playoffs last year it wont even be close.

You can't have Montreal 2nd and Ottawa 3rd.

exactly. But it's obvious they didn't take divisions into consideration.

The original poster commented on that already.

Montreal realistically doesn't really have a shot at winning the NE, but finishing fourth would be tremendous, behind either Ottawa or Buffalo. Those two teams are strong enough that I just can't see us finishing above both of them.

[edit] It's also pretty much impossible for four teams from one division to make the playoffs, as they have Montreal, Ottawa, Boston and Buffalo all making it. 32 inter-division games pretty much eliminates that scenario.

Its possible, but I agree pretty damn unlikely. I can see Atlanta kicking Boston out if Lehtonen is healthy.

And 5th place pretty much gaurantees playing Ottawa or Buffalo.
