Korpikoski to Edmonton

He would allow us to stop playing Smyth/Petrell. What would it take for the Oilers to land him?

I like Petrell and Brown as 4th line wingers, both fill that spot well. I think the need for Korpi is only there if they move Jones, to have a guy to play with Horcoff and Yakupov.

As for a price, I've got no idea really. He's a solid 3rd liner who's going to be a RFA at the end of the season, so you'd still have control for a bit. I dunno, one of their second rounders? Maybe a prospect like Hamilton and a lower pick?

would something like Jones + a 3rd rounder work? I'm not sure how Phoenix fans gauge his value.

no, it would not be enough. Korpedo fits Tippett's system like a glove, he's an elite PKer who can provide some secondary scoring with his amazing speed. No need to trade him for nothing short of overpayment.

What would be considered an overpayment by the Oilers for Lauri Korpikoski?

Realistically, it'd have to involve Paajarvi. Teams don't dump affordable RFAs that fit them like a glove at the deadline. Not unless there is upside coming the other way.

Uhh Korpikoski is worth nothing close to the big 4. What about a 2nd round pick and Petrell?

And why do you think Phoenix would do that?

Petrell is also a great PKer and a big body with decent speed, however not as good as Korpikoski. Phoenix could certainly use the 2nd rounder.

I've been pumping the "Korpikoski to Edmonton" tires before, since I think he's precisely what the team needs: a reliable PK option who is a mainstay on the third line but can jump up in case of an injury. Ryan Jones is sort of like that, but this season his play has left much to be desired. If Jones does indeed leave via UFA, Korpedo would be a guy Tambo should keep his eye on, since he is absolutely due for a raise.

The problem, of course, is that Korp fits in just fine on the Coyotes, and there is no reason for them to move him, unless it is for an overpayment.

I think for a signed Korpikoski, 2nd + Petrell + Prospect like Hamilton/Marincin is fair.

Phoenix isn't going to downgrade on Korpikoski for a 2nd round pick just because Edmonton wants their player. That isn't nearly enough incentive.

That doesn't really help the Coyotes. What about something based around Korpikoski for Paajarvi?

Not much incentive for the Oilers, since Korpikoski is pretty much the exact player we hope Paajarvi is to become at this point. Maybe even more physical, since Paajarvi is a bit bigger and heavier.

Yeah we are starting to see Paajarvi evolve into the player he was supposed to be at the draft. He is starting to become a good power forward and beginning to find his offence.

I don't think the Oilers would want to give up him to acquire a similar player in Korpikoski, however having both would be outstanding.

As I stated Petrell + a 2nd is a good start, and adding a prospect like Tangerine suggested could be possible. Rajala/Hamilton could certainly be had.

Nope Paajarvi has too high a ceiling to trade him now.

And Korpikoski has too high a floor to trade him for Petrell and a second and a mediocre prospect, imo. So where does that leave everybody?

so now that the big 4 has evolved into the big 4 + schultz and paajarvi as players that 'won't be traded'; how does Edmonton get what they want from their leftover collection of has-beens and AHL? I say this knowing that EDM has some decent role-players; but role-players don't net you anything. Everyone has role-players.
