he got traded this morning to San Jose, along with a 2nd rounder, for Scott Hannan. It was just reported on the team 990.

You may be joking but it was reported that Ribiero has been training hard at the Bell center all summer since May... He just might be stronger after all.

He gained 1.2 lbs but he was wet at the time of measuring.

Hey, you'd be surprised what you can do with an extra 1.2lbs of muscle!

I found a relevant and interesting excerpt while reviewing the Daniel Tkaczuk thread in the NHL Talk forum here. It is well conceived and I think it does a good job explaining why Tkaczuk never made it. For this thread, I think it also contains several parallels to Ribeiro's situation that will be evident within a couple of years.

...Daniel Tkaczuk, who was chosen with the sixth pick overall after Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Olli Jokkinen, Roberto Luongo and Eric Brewer. If you follow hockey, you definitely will recognize those names. But chances are that you aren’t familiar with Tkaczuk.

Being selected that high, he thought he had it made. He had “can’t-miss-kid” written all over him. Many players look at the draft that way. But it is a long way from there to reality. Being drafted is just one step along the way, just as making a team is at the youth hockey level. But the game is played on the ice. And that is where players have to perform. Every day.

The scouting report on Tkaczuk said that he could score and lead and compete. But in eight seasons of pro hockey, he never really did. At least at the NHL level, appearing in only 19 games during that time.

"It takes a lot more than skill to be successful. You need determination, consistency, reliability. To me, the fire in Daniel didn't run real deep”, said Craig Button in the Sun article. Button inherited Tkaczuk when he took over as General Manager of the Calgary Flames a couple of seasons after he was drafted. “He didn't have that burning desire to be a player. I don't know if he had a passion for hockey, I never saw it. I only had him for one year but I never sensed he loved the game."

Nobody NEEDS Ribeiro , nobody WANTS Ribeiro .
Habs will give him a last chance this season because they don't really have anything to lose by not trying and they have everything to gain if he actually returns to his "potential" form.

That's true. especially in his case, since it represents a 25% net increase of total muscular mass !

And he had a 65 point season with that 25% less muscle mass... Imagine now!
