If you can find someone who can play effective shutdown and puckcontrol hockey, and still be offensively gifted, then he would clearly be overqualified for the 4th line. I still wouldn't cry if he played there because there is no more room elsewhere.
It would just make us even more dangerous. Depth, depth, depth. I want the opposing coach to be at lost as who how how he'll prepare his line-opposition WHILE AT HOME.
Again, who should be benched then? That's my point.
Unless we get a stud player the difference would be marginal or negative.
Looking at who is available, I don't see someone who is affordable and worth it to play depth minutes based on your description of an offensive gifted player WITH shutdown ability.
Apart from a legit top 6er, it's not worth disrupting chemistry for IMO.

He doesn't but I think Bourque can offset his impact as it is. Unless you want him to behind 2 players, I don't see a need to get expensive depth. Cheap depth? I'd consider it.

After that, its Eller that has the most games in the playoffs with only 7. Then DD and Bourque has 5 and none for MaxPac, Gallagher and Galchenyuk.
So of our top 9, 6 of them have 7 or less playoffs games.
I'm not sure why people seem to think that Galchenyuk have a save spot in our top 9 when comes the playoffs. The kid is coming from junior to NHL playoffs in under 50 reg. season games. Don't think he's gonna be ready for it.
It depends on Bergevin. If he feels THIS is our year then a 2nd+ isn't something to care about. Stockpiling to do nothing is pointless so I'd obviously be okay if he pushed further. Still, D is our priority IMO. Targetting forward depth would be meh at this point.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who wouldn't pencil Galchenyuk into the
play-off line-up. To me he's still a judgement call for the coach. Perhaps
for every game. Having a veteran that can be used every game, on at
least the third line, is important.
And then Bourque has to be considered a question mark. At least till
he has played several solid games.
So ideally we need at least one clear"top nine" kind of player. Hopefully
someone that is good in front of their net, but can also fit in with our
Failing that, a " top four" sort of defenseman with reasonable size.
Failing both, we shouldn't trade even a third, or mid level prospect.
MB could still shop for minor depth, as long as it's cheap. Helpern sort
of value, although I don't expect someone completely free.
Looking at our lineup, I'd much prefer getting a big physical stay @ home D than a bottom 6 physical guy.
I agree, if they could add a top 4 D that would give the luxury of being able to push Emelin down to the 3rd pairing then this team would be really difficult to score against. I'd honestly give up quite a bit to get either Giordano or JBo from CGY.
