Vanek play LW?

Checked. Yes he does.

Vanek for Gabby straight up would be fair. but no way Buffalo does that.

two players that are pretty even across the board.

Historically speaking:

Vanek scores approx. 34 goals a year with approx. 68 pts per year
Gabby scores approx. 36 goals a year with approx. 72 pts per year

I would love to see a one for one swap as Vanek would address the need for a top 6 LW.

While this make a ton of sense for the Rangers, it makes no sense for Buffalo.

Gaborik has always wanted to play for Buffalo, especially when they are one of the worst teams in the league.

Hirvik ranked 21OUT OF 25 PROSPECTS UNDER 25 FOR THE RANGERS when I googled his name...SO....reading this proposal as players with 1 year left on their contract (and $9M high cap hit) along with a mediocre prospect for Vanek (who also has 1 year left on his contract after this season).

Has Hirvik's game changed significantly recently?

If not, absolutely no interest.

I like Boyle but this move makes no sense from Sabres POV.

Edited for minor grammar and capitalization corrections

If we change Hirvik to Thomas, better?

They could probably get a much richer prospect/pick package next season. Or, even at the deadline.

Value-wise, it's pretty close. But it doesnt make a ton of sense for Buffalo to flip Vanek for Gaborik, especially with the Sabres current situation.

not really as I think we have a pretty good chance of resigning Vanek. If Vanek is willing to resign, I don't think we move him unless it is ridiculous overpayment.

Regardless, not really interested in pending UFA's (1 year left) as a significant part of the return for Vanek. If the team moves him, I'd be looking for a super hot young player as the major return with reasonable long term signed players as the balance makers in the deal. Gaborik and Boyle don't fit that (again nothing against them, both good players but not what Buffalo needs due to coming UFA status for both and cap hit).

Edit: Termed players as pending UFA's since this season is over for Buffalo and they need to be looking at this with a starting in 2013-2014 mentality.

Don't see how this helps Buffalo whatsoever.

Vanek and Gaborik are the same player..... except Gaborik has more speed and Vanek is better in front of the net.

Pretty pointless if you ask me.

Doesn't really fit into what Sabres are trying to accomplish.

If we move Vanek we want 1st round pick and good prospects.

Vanek is a better player, tbh. Gaborik has a tendency to start floating (See: this season). He's talented, but Vanek is better defensively and when healthy is a better player. They're pretty close, but I don't see why Buffalo trades Vanek unless it's for prospects and picks.

Why on earth would Buffalo do this? Give up a year of Vanek for a month of Gaborik? Hell no.

A year of Vanek for a year of Gaborik*

Just thought you might like to know that. Buffalo still doesn't do it but you can at least get the terms right.

Gaborik has one year left.

There is no point to this trade from Buffalo's standpoint. They would rather trade Vanek for 1st + young players.

Not even 1% interested in Gaborik.
