His deal is actually two-way. I confirmed it with capgeek when I saw his contract on their site listing $70k AHL salary.

Now watch us all jump to the conclusion he will do the same thing that Read did and jump right to NHL after impressing in his short stink with the Phantoms.

Well honestly there were like 2 of us who watched Read and said he could do it. We were criticized that a 25 yr old UFA NCAA agent had a small chance of making it. Those of us who saw him in the AHL said how much he dominated and could play at the next level based off of all his skills.

Now Flanagan while he has (I think) better offensive potential then Read, doesnt have Read's defensive play. Flanagan doesnt shy away from defense (like Briere) but his size hasnt helped him.

Do I think he will make the team out of camp? No, but I think he will get a long look despite his size.

That would be great if he was HALF as good as him come NHL playing time for his career. I'd be happy with it.

He has great hands. When I watched the video I saw the other teams D - reminded me of ours... haha

I'm not sold on Flanagan. The tempo of an NHL game is a lot quicker, and defenders are going to close the gap. If you don't have the size to give yourself space, you need skating. Unfortunately, Flanagan is a short, mediocre skater.

Or the next Darren Haydar. I'd say that's more likely, but even getting to his level will take some work.

Holy **** I had never heard of Haydar. How can someone tear up the AHL like that and then not stick in the NHL?

Kyle has a lot of similarities with PA Parenteau. PA was the definition of a late bloomer. Kyle could have gone pro earlier but stayed all 4 years. It's his hometown university. His age therefore only is relevant when considering how long it might take to adapt to the pro game.

Power play time, and a lot of it, and you'll reap the benefits.

I'm not saying there were a lot of us who thought Read would make it. I'm saying that now that we have seen a College guy make it some will expect it out of the next guy that follows the same pattern.
