Yeah Liles is just a terrible trade for McBain given the cap implications. He's been just as productive as McBain and is older on a much worse contract for a longer term. Leafs would have to eat about half the contract to make it make sense for the Canes.
Include a cap dump(Jokinen) and it doesn't look that bad.
Seriously doubt JR moves McBain for an older defenceman. If he goes he it will most likely be for a defenceman of similar age and upside that is more of a stay at home type. Liles makes no sense considering his age, contract and playing style.
One new name popped up Monday as potential trade bait: defenseman Jamie McBain.
I'm told the Carolina Hurricanes would be willing to move him if the offer was right. McBain is not a rental; he has one more year on his deal at $1.9 million in salary and $1.8 million on the cap. He's an intriguing name, to be sure, a guy who can provide some offense from the back end.
Speaking of the Hurricanes, I'm also hearing that, despite clearing waivers last week, forward Jussi Jokinen continues to generate interest from other teams that want Carolina to take a player back in return. So he could definitely move before Wednesday's deadline.
Jokinen is a player the Vancouver Canucks have on their radar, although I would say he's not at the top of their list.
I haven't the slightest clue of McBains value so ill leave that to you guys but on the main board some are speculating McBain would be a good fit for the rangers.
Also saw he and McD used to play together.
Some are saying Car wants a defensive Dman back.
Would it make sense to trade Girardi?
I don't know if I want to trade G but I saw a conversation about it the other day.
Something around Girardi for McBain, again I have no idea how the value is so one team could add

That said, I could see the Canes being willing to add enough to make it happen.
I doubt Girardi would be in any kind of deal with McBain coming back. We would be looking to add McBain behind Girardi. Stralman has been decent but RD is our achilies heal. Stralman/McBain/Eminger would be eaten alive.

Seems like a lot of people pairing up Jokinen with McBain
Any thoughts on Raymond + Ballard for them?
I like this deal but the salary comes out to almost a wash next season, which the Canes cannot afford. They tried to lose Jokinen on waivers for that reason. And I already think Vancouver is coming out ahead and this deal so I doubt they could be convinced to keep any salary.
