GI Jones hitting in the 2 hole??? Walker at 6 is too low. I always thought of him as a great 2 hitter, apparantly he likes hitting 5th and I guess I would prefer him there rather than 6. (I know it's 1 spot in the lineup.. still I'd rather have him there if Pedro can't get the job done rather than Gaby) Speaking of which..

Is Gaby Sanchez any good? I came away very unimpressed with him last year.. should we expect a bounce back year?

Actually pumped about the game tomorrow! Let's go Buccos! The lineup actually seems to have some potential in there.

I think it's the best lineup in years, but the pitching is a bunch of huge question marks, including Burnett I think. Still, I'm really pumped for tomorrow! Cold weather + not being in Pittsburgh has made me keep forgetting that tomorrow is the day!

(Nice draft, everybody).

Just about every predictor has Sanchez having a bounce-back year...and after his Spring I have to say I'm a believer. I don't expect greatness, but I expect solid numbers.

Clint apparently wants to try Jones in the 2 hole because of his OPS or something. I'm not sure how long that experiment will last just because that means our top 2 guys in the line-up are guys that just don't walk that often (though oddly Marte walked in 4 of the 6 at bats I watched this Spring).

I am happy about the opener, but the date just serves a reminder of how long the schedule is. Of course nothing is more important than money, as it definitely trumps common sense, apparently. No way should we have games during 30-40 degree weather. Games in early April, and late Sept, early October are idiotic to me. I was watching some of the '79 World Series games, (after all that is all Pirates fans have in terms of winning games, THE PAST). And the first game of the series was cancelled due to SNOW. Freakin' snow.

Oh well, good weather or not, baseball is here.

Completely forgot about the opener tomorrow. I guess I was distracted with trades and Sid's injury.

I think the lineup is a bit odd with Jones at 2, but I guess Hurdle has an idea there. I think Walker is a much better fit, but I'm ok with giving something a shot.

I'm excited to see Sanchez. He's never been much of an average guy, but I'd like to see his power numbers get back up to levels of a few years ago. He had a decent spring in power, so let's hope that continues.

I, too, am worried about the rotation. It's going to be boom/bust, unfortunetly I think it's leaning more towards bust.

Good luck to the Bucs this season! I don't usually jump on board til after Pens season but Cutch is a guy that is building a legend here in the Burgh. He's a guy you want to root for and enjoy watching.

Go Bucs!

Astros pulling the upset off so far. Maybe they will somehow be amazing in the AL, thus proving the underrated dominance of the NL central once and for all!

That's the thing about a 50 win team - they don't lose 50 games.

Indeed.

I figured out earlier tonight that MLB ripped me off and re-registered me for the TV package. Stupidly, I was trying to email them to cancel from a different email address than the one that the account is currently signed up to, so I have no grounds to complain and try to get my money back... however, I get to watch the opener tomorrow and a bunch more games, so I'm not very unhappy about it.

Cutch is a great player to have on the team. May not be as dominant as Sid/Geno in the NHL, but Cutch is an amazing all around MLB player. We haven't had one of those in quite some time.

Exactly. A 50 though 90 win team in MLB isn't much.

As for the season, maybe the Stros are doing ok tonight, but I still see them losing 80 games. They really don't have a team.

Burnett with 6 consecutive K's.

Now let's get him some runs.

I agree with Blass, tremendous stop by Martin. That ball by Burnett was WAAAAYYYY out there. And Burnett with two big K's. Needs one more out to get out of this jam.

Nice, Love the emotion shown there by Burnett.

Gets out of the inning, unscathed.

I'm not much help with any feeds/mlbtv, sorry.

Burnett looks pretty solid today. One bad pitch, but he really picked it up when needed, including a good, quick, clean inning against the top of the order in the 5th. Encouraging to see from the leader of the staff.

With the bottom of the order sucking, looks like Burnett will get back out there in the 6th and we won't see a pinch hitter or something stupid. That's good, but Samardzija is really looking good.

Overall, pretty #Hurdled today, with Sanchez in the lineup and above Walker vs. a righty, meaning Jones is in the outfield. It's easy to second guess, but with Sanchez's career numbers, he's a platoon player and Snider should have started.

Behind home plate, I can see Curtis Aiken, and David Morehouse.
