Oh really? Seems like a good call when the team is 2 points out of the 8th seed with 13 games left in season. Especially when they are going of huge wins over Boston and mainly Capitals. But I agree with you Flyers shouldn't go after Clowe.

//By the way there were already some rumours that trade between Flyers and Sharks about Clowe will be likely done tonight ...

The seemingly large market for Clowe's services mean he'll probably get a decent return. Hopefully we can rip another team off for once, though I'd still be sad to see Clowe go.

For the same reason the Nucks fans want so desperately to get rid of him.

He hasn't lost a step, at all. He's been playing when he should have been rehabbing because he's as tough as they come and didn't want to sit out. Even so, he has still been putting up points and playing very well.

I don't see one thing in Clowe's game that says to me that his production this year is anything more than a result of his injury.
Shh. 0 goals, Sharks would be lucky to get a 2nd rounder for him.

Am I missing out on something lol? The whole point of getting a rental is to use him during the playoffs. Why don't the flyers just sign him in the off-season, unless they believe they can overcome a 2points and a game in hand competing with other teams.

The San Jose Sharks are an undersized team, with lots of speed?

Inconsistent and injury prone. Plus we are looking for long term cost control, not guys like Mason Raymond.

In all fairness, outside of his broken back he has been a pretty healthy/consistent player.

Raymond has been one of the most dangerous Canucks on the ice this year ,
i was leading the charge to get rid of him last year but he has surprised me.
I guess a broken back takes some time to heal.
That kid could be money next year if he spends another offseason working hard.

Yeah I'd actually rather re-sign Raymond than trade him for Clowe. I would like to see Clowe in Van, but honestly have no clue as to what we might offer for him.

Raymond is also an elite penalty killer.

I am going to be so happy when this trade is done and so many realize that their judgement is terribly mis-aligned with those who do this for a living. Clowe has 65 shots on goal this season, which would translate to ~8 goals based on his historical shooting %. It is almost impossible that he doesn't have a goal, even though he doesn't. Despite his injury, he is still tied for 5th on the Shark's in scoring with 11 assists and he brings the same physical aspect and board work he always has. NHL GM's understand the scoring will come with health and Clowe represents a very rare and valuable combination of skillsets despite his goal drought.

And I bet they will pay accordingly, especially with the consideration of a contract extension which sounds as though it will be a necessary component of him waiving his NTC.

Inconsistant yes, but injury prone?

One major injury (albeit a serious one) makes you injury prone?

I think a lot of GM's are counting on the fact that he is long overdue for some goal scoring.

No one is saying "Ryane Clowe hasn't scored? He never will again" (no one intelligent anyways).

Sharks won't trade Clowe for Pavelski. It just doesn't accomplish anything.

Local beat writer Russo with some insight on the Wild aspect of this Clowe thing FWIW:

Two days before playing the San Jose Sharks, Wild shows interest in Ryane Clowe

Trading Raymond for Clowe would make us a worse team. I wouldn't mind Clowe, but there are far better options available. The only way I'd want Gillis to go after Clowe is if everyone else is overpriced an Clowe comes fairly cheaply.
