HF was so quick to proclaim McDonagh and Pietrangelo as franchise defensemen, but you have to fight tooth and nail to prove that Subban's worthy of a Norris this season.

Yeah, I remember when Peach was just incomparable to Subban.

Being on a 15th place team invalidates any talent on said team.

I believe I've heard what amounts to that argument on this board, Subban being a clear number one in impact didn't matter because the team was losing.

You do realize they show not even 5% of what goes on in the locker room right?

But Huberdeau deserved the Calder because he is playing for a losing team.

I remember this being an argument used. But that was just people grasping at straws.
If anything it's actually the sign of real talent. When a player can be so effective in a bottom place team, then you know it's for real. Playing on a better team would only work to his favor, not against it, and we're seeing it now.

People on this board think that to be a good NHL captain you have to constantly be giving speeches that are a mix of Gerard Butler in 300 and Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday. Otherwise you're "too quiet" and not a leader.

I'd steal Gerald butler for an assitant coachnig position. Scotish 300 speech before going to fight the bruins in the playoff is worth whatever he's going to demand.

I'm only half kidding.

no but for example Gionta then started talking right after Gorges and he was way more clearer in what he was saying.

I had my doubts about Gionta before but that video confirmed me why he was choosen Captain and not Gorges for example... even though i know theres more on being a captain than just making good speeches... but you can't be a leader when your not one of the best on the ice and don't posses great communication skills.

I have seen Gorges in other videos, he is great at pumping players before the games and when they do exercises...

Should wait at least till the season is over. Subban = God mode right now, but what good is a bridge contract for if you're going to rush and sign him long term ASAP based on a very short evaluation period?

It's too late. It's going to cost the Habs a small fortune to extend Subban.

What really worries me is the lack of production of Subban at ES.

For now, he is 36th with ESP.

Is it possible that the extraordinary performance of PK in PP this season is caused by Markov?

Streit (34 PPP) had his best season with Markov.
So did Souray (48 PPP) and Komisarek.

Streit, Komisarek, and Souray did not play well on defense like PK. PK has been doing well ES lately. There is nothing to worry about.

Interesting approach but Subban is really good 5 on 5 and can hold his own defensively paired with anyone. His skating is beyond anything I've seen on the Habs since maybe, pre-injury Markov and his physical agility and strength is superior to anyone else on the team.

He's a two-way d-man, he's not a Green/Karlsson type. He won't create EV offense because we don't play that way, he gets the puck, gives a great pass and lets the forward create the play before he jumps in or pinches. If his offense is getting overrated, I'm not worried because his defensive play is as real as it gets.

The only worry would be if, god forbid, he gets injured and isn't the same after the injury because at the moment he beats his opponents with only his physicality and speed and agility, not even his hockey sense.

He's as important to our Habs as Kane would be...and I may go further in writing that we need Subban more than we need Kane (helps that we have Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Eller...). For us...it's Subban...imo.
I agree on being as important. However, Chicago had Keith, Seabrook, Barker, etc. They were looking for forwards hence why I kept Kane there.

You can't extend a player until he's in his last contract year. So we have no choice but to wait for summer at the earliest.
However, PK had already earned himself the right to a long term deal before this year. This season only confirmed it to anybody that had doubts. But there were plenty of people here that wanted PK signed to a longer deal instead of this bridge deal.
That was the whole point, screw the bridge deal, sign him to a cheap long term deal now while he still is on the cheap side of things.

You could say that, however you could also look at the fact that PK had a great rookie year on the PP with Wiz. He wasn't producing as much as he is now, but that's what experience is. Markov is a great PP QB, so I'm not denying he plays a part, but it's not as big a part as he did for Souray.
Even Streit was able to produce at the same rate in his first year in NYI as he did here. Except he got a lot of points as a forward here as well, so in NYI it was all done on D.

PK is a lot more patient with the puck, he is looking for open lanes towards the net a lot more, uses his wrist shot more, and isn't forcing his blasts from the point.

As for his ES production, I'm not worried at all. If he was struggling at ES then there would be cause for concern, but he isn't at all. He is holding back and not rushing the puck as much as he used to, which I'm sure came straight from the coaches. I believe this is the main reason why he isn't producing as much, but he still dominates his opposition. So really, no need to worry about it.
