Posted in the trade rumors thread, but Rosehill is a UFA next year and Harry Z is an rfa. I wonder if rfas count against next years 50 contract limit right now. Any cba guys know? If so then it makes some sense.

Why not put him through waivers and hope he gets picked up?

Yeah, but a team doesn't necessarily HAVE to send a qualifying offer to RFAs. They could have just as easily said no and have Harry Z try free agency.

Perhaps they are just doing Harry Z a favor...since he really doesn't have a spot on the NHL club.

This is absolutely nothing to get worked up about.

Are they considered under contract up until the point of qualifying? That is only thing that would make this deal make sense is that UFA contracts are finished at the end of the season while rfas count until July 1, or when ever the qualifying period starts/ends. If any of that is true, which I am completely guess and was hoping someone who knows the details of the cba, then the Flyers could sign someone today for next year like a college free agent as opposed to having to wait. Again, I am just guessing and was hoping for a definite answer.

They might be able to release them to UFA status prior to the qualifying point. I know you can do that in NHL13, LOL.

From the Ducks board-

The trade was done because of the veteran rule. The Ads can only dress so many veterans per game and we were sitting healthy players out to comply with the rule. Rosehill was a vet, Zolnierczyk is not.

Why trade for Rosehill when we got rid of Sesito earlier this season?

Foster and Gervais... its not like there were a lot of options out there. Shelley, Rosehill... yeah, no reason.

I could have lived with Shelley had he come at the league minimum pay range, but his caphit for what he brings was just awful.

This Rosehill trade is just a head scratcher. The only thing I can think of is that Homer is greasing the wheels with Anaheim as a potential trade partner for this summer.

Meh. Despite the fact that Harry Z was in his 20s, he really wasn't that good. Borderline NHLer now and in the future in all likelihood.

We are just helping the Ducks out. Pretty much the only reason this trade is done.

Homer had to get his relationship up to good with 4 NHL GMs to get to the next GM ranking.

Mission accomplished!

Could be. Either way the trade is pointless. Doesn't hurt or help the team. Gotta believe they weren't planning on tendering him a QO in the offseason, which again is not a big deal. Harry Z played with intensity, hut he is easily replaced.
