Crucial time in contract talks between Streit and the Islanders. Wed's morning will be cut-off and his trade status determined.#tradecentre
It'll be interesting to read after the trade deadline, whether Vis 2 yr/$9.7m extension, muddied the waters in Streit's extension talks.

Streit asked for 3 yrs/$10m about 4-5 weeks ago. I thought those were reasonable numbers, so long as Snow didn't give him a NTC or NMC.

Then Vis gets a partial NMC.

Talks are continuing between the Isles and D Mark Streit. Buffalo D Robyn Regehr hasn't been asked to waive his clause yet. #Tradetracker

Haminics not going anywhere.
Sign STreit to the deal. They could alaways trade him at the deadline in year three once the young pups develop.

i sorta kinda like that offer.

I believe the Oilers will be watching this situation unfold with considerable interest.

I think it seems pretty fair for both teams.
Thats fair value for a 35 year old UFA. As an earlier poster said no more than 4 million a season but I have no problem with 3 years.
Colorado would have to do a sign and trade because they arent a playoff team though so I dont see the fit. Avs are also in semi rebuild mode.

I would do this deal even though I dont love KHOKO.
Boston had Boyes before and his style doesnt fit their team.
I think Bailey could replace Kelly for them.

NY is not giving him away. Speculation is if they cant agree to a contract they may trade him at the deadline. He is still the team captain and a good offensive player as well as PP specialist. His D is still solid.

I think Garth has a few offers for Striet and is waiting to see if Striet excepts a deal...

IMO Striet will sign last min and take the deal he is offered...

I say give him the 3rd yr too. I wouldn't want his NMC to cover all three seasons. Just the first two seasons.

hes 34 right now right? I think the big deciding factor in contract length will be if hes 35 or not before FA begins. (if the 35+ rule even still exists)

if hes still 34, I see a 3+ year contract going to him.

I don't think hes on Gonchar's level, but I wouldn't mind giving him 4.5 for 3 years from Ottawa.

maybe if he was sign and traded, I would give up our 1st and a medium prospect.

he could take Benoit's spot this year, and most likely replace a lot of Gonchar's minutes next year if he leaves.

Streit is 35 now, therefore the 35+ rule will be in effect on any multi-year deal.

He's 35, not 34.

Mark Streit is unlikely to agree to extension with NYI.Isles may keep him for playoff race, but unless there's change, Streit will be a UFA.

With Streit negotiation stalled, expect teams to make a play for trade. Isles don't want to trade him. Could change overnight. #tradecentre

I can't blame Streit. The ufa market's looking weak. Some team will give him a 3-4 yr deal, at higher $ then the isles will offer.

So I guess it's more of the same for Streit. Snow is not going to deal him and let him walk at the end of the season. The fact we're actually still in the playoff race complicates matters so I expect Streit to play out the rest of the season, just like Blake and Parenteau did.

Normally I wouldn't be happy if Snow were to stand pat once again, but we actually have a realistic shot to make the 2nd season and trading Streit could do some harm to the locker room.

What if Streit brings back a decent plug-in young defender (in addition to a high pick) and JT is named Captain? Could be addition by subtraction.

How about:
Ryan Whitney+ conditional 2013 2nd (if Streit resigns) for Streit?

Isles would get back another puck mover so they're not taking a step back. They also get a 2nd rounder if Streit resigns in Edmonton.

Oilers get a good puck moving LHD, who they could try to resign this summer.

If Snow could pull off something like that, I'd hope he'd consider it. In the end though, it's all about how important is it for this team to make the playoffs. The organization has said that they felt this team could make the playoffs (the company line) this year and it's April and they're still in it...

Streit is still the captain and has a strong presence in the lockerroom. The team is still young and their psyche is still very fragile. Experiencing a legitimate playoff race and possibly making it could do absolute wonders for this team, you can't put a price on something like that. Keeping Streit for that gives us the best chance to accomplish that, so I keep him and possibly add a vet who could help us.

@StapeNewsday

And as @DarrenDreger reported, #Isles and Mark Streit unable to agree on extension at this point, but highly unlikely Streit is traded.
