How bout a second rounder and Colby Armstrong?
not enough IMO. Plus Buffalo doesnt have a need for Armstrong.

Murray cost 2 2nd round picks, and Regehr is better then Murray. Plus many teams want a D-man right now.

If regehr doesnt get what he wants from you, he'll get it somewhere else

Regehr also has a NMC and one of the 2nd rounders from the Murray deal was conditional on re-signing.

Our 2nd along with Dallas' 3rd?

Guaranteed Regehr doesn't fetch a return on the level of Beaulieu/Tinordi + 2nd.

I'd consider a Murray-like return.

** If the Habs make the Eastern Conference final, we add a 2013 3rd round pick and Buff keeps their 5th round pick

I still feel like MTL would be underpaying though, especially at trade deadline day
Anyone else thoughts on this suggestion?

What's even funnier is the fact that you're serious

You can keep Regher at that price we'll play one of Tinordi or Beaulieu instead of him.

Takes it from one side of the spectrum right to the other.

The chance of getting a Beaulieu/Tinordi prospect for Regehr is zero, even without the pick. From any team.

How ? The 2nd round pick is the biggest thing there.

St-Denis is 27 and a UFA at the end of the year. He was waived and the Sabres traded TJ Brennan away for a 5th. Brennan is better than St-Denis. St-Denis is worthless.

Rights to Engqvist? Don't care

Patrick Holland ? Meh prospect.

He is not WAY better than Murray, maybe marginally better than Murray. In no way does that mean he's worth a 2nd and a blue-chip prospect. Expect to see 2nd or 3rd round picks for him. He's a 5th/6th UFA Dman at the tail end of his career who is not a game changer. 1st + Beaulieu/Tinordi could likely get you a #3/4 defenceman at the deadline.

When I say overpayment, I mean it in the quantity sense, not so much quality. Buffalo would have little to no interest in any of those pieces. Holland's a decent enough prospect though.

CGY's 2nd should be plenty for a rental like Regehr.

Our 2nd, and a conditional second based on re-signing (which I don't think is likely).

The beauty of the deadline is getting more than it "should" take from a team who is desparate and missed out

would much rather keep CGY's 2nd. it's practically a 1st rounder.

Only thing is, Montreal's not desperate. Bergevin isn't gonna overpay in the slightest for a rental.

If he is cheap I wouldn't mind him but he isn't worth much more than a 2nd. I would offer 3rd + Weber.

Then why are the Canadiens inquiring about Regehr?

Seriously the Canadiens fans have to realize Murray got a 2nd and a Conditional 2nd.... Regehr will similar or more than that.... not sure why there is much debate here... There will be teams that want him regardless if the Canadiens fans want him or not.

I certainly hope not. I am ok with going with the team they have now and whatever happens, happens. They have gotten a lot of rookies some valuable experience. Build for the future, don't trade away assets unless it helps for more than this year.

fine with me. the Pens are all-in. the Habs don't have that mentality, yet.

This is what's going to happen:

Sabres prefer not trading to mtrl. Yes, I know he is a USA after this year.
Sabres get a 2nd plus very solid prospect from another team
We all come in here to laugh and say we told you so
You respond and say well good, he wasn't worth giving that much up anyways

That'll be the end of it.
