The emotional responses from the fans

It's deadline time, the Sabres are way back in the race, and clearly management is going to be selling assets. What I want to know is how this scenario is affecting you on an emotional level.

I'm very excited to see the potential for a changing of the guard, so to speak, and have been hoping for this for 4 years. I think that Jame is in a very similar boat, but I'm sure there are some out there who feel differently, and I wanted to make this thread for people to express that.

I'm all over it. Most excited I've been in a while. Can't wait to see who goes next.

Still kind of meh. Sell them all for as much as you can. I'll worry about the draft picks in 3-4 years when it's clear what we're getting out of them.

I'll admit to being a bit dismayed. Not because of the sell off. I have few ties to this particular team emotionally. They've been underachievers for the past 3 seasons and things need to change.

But the changes so far have been around the edges. The core of this team remains complacent and incapable of consistantly good performance. I'm all for moviing some big names out. But it appears the rot is much deeper. (Connelly, Roy, Gaustad all gone. Little to no change yet....)

If the foundation is that bad, you have to wonder about the architect and builder. And we're going to let that same guy stock up on draft choices and formulate the next edition?

Sabres are always applauded for their farm team and the quality in the system. I'm still waiting for that to pay off in a big way.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

It's getting old and so am I. I want Buffalo to win a Cup .... while I'm still able to enjoy it.

Literally the only Buffalo-related thing I care about with regard to the 12/13 season is getting the #1 or #2 overall pick in this draft. If they sell everyone off (which I support) and then try to scratch/claw their way into the playoffs only to *just* miss and get a #10-13 overall again I'll be beyond livid.

It's the end of an era, IMO. Bittersweet, because I really started watching in 03/04 and 05/06, and I've never really had to see this before, and there were some great memories.

- Rush to 10th in 04, watching them play the Habs on a french broadcast of CBC
- 05-06, Especially remember the 1-0 Shootout win over Philly putting the team on the map, going to my first and only playoff win in the Sens series.
- 06-07, that Rangers game during the October Surprise, Rangers comebacks
- 07-08, Nolan ****ing Pratt!
- 08-09, Flight 3407 game, longest ovation I've ever been a part of
- 09-10, Miller and the Olympics
- 10-11, The remarkable run to 7th
- 11-12, IRL jumping up and fist-pumping for Hodgson to Sabres

I'll remember those as long as I live. But it's the time to start something new, and within the next two years all the key players will be gone. I hope that I can make new memories with the people I care about. I don't doubt I will.

That was one of the handful (10-12?) I've been to since the lockout. Unreal game. Unreal atmosphere.

Had a friend fly in all the way from San Jose to visit and go to that game with us. Even he said it was one of the most insanely surreal hockey experiences ever.

Sounds like there are basically 3 or 4 generations of fans on this site.

Original Series/Old timers - 1970 until Perrault's retirement
The Next Generation - Lafontaine/Mogilny/Hawerchuk
The Empire Strikes Back - Peca/Hasek/No goal
Clone Wars -Post strike - 2004 till today - Rochester Core/Co Capts/Miller time.

Frankly, it's hard to get excited or wax memories about rushes to 7th and 8th places that have epitomized this current group.

That SJS comeback, that tying goal, that shootout. My friend didn't really recognize the significance of that game but I was pretty much in tears from all the emotion. I really can't overstate what an experience that was.

Excited and fearful.

Excited b/c this really seems like we're gearing up for a new Era.

Fearful b/c.....well, It's Buffalo. This may not go as planned.

Extremely excited...But at the same time extremely nervous that this is going to end up being a 3-5 year rebuild where I don't see my team make the playoffs. =/

I really hope its a quick turn around similar to the Habs just did.

Not to say there weren't some great moments from the other generations but as far as consistancy of quality play over the longest term, ya can't beat the originals.....

I'm an old school fan also and I remember the standing ovation following their elimination by the Habs, the fog game, their dismantling of the mighty Soviets; these scraping by to get in the playoffs just don't do it for me.

I am all for it. This is the most excited I have been in 2 years.

Give me moments like the 98 playoff run (**** you Joe Juneau),99 and 06 runs.I would much rather go through those than watch this team start off the season like **** then claw our way too a 9th place finish

Yup, I'm part of the 05 and beyond crowd as I was ten when I became a fan and the only reason I became a fan is Miller. I'm from toronto and play goalie in hockey and I came down to HSBC to see leafs/sabres as a leafs fan. I was expecting to see biron but miller started and stole the game. He instantly became my favorite goalie and I became a sabres fan. So ya I'll be sad when he's traded. I was already pissed at the leafs for trading my favorite player, cujo, so the conversion was easy

As opposed to us being stagnant, or adding an ineffective Dominic Moore or an out of shape Raffi Torres and calling it a successful deadline, we've identified that we need to sell bodies for future assets - AND ARE DOING SO.

To me, there's something bigger here, and that's the notion of being patient so long as we see that things are moving in a remedy-like direction.

I've said it a million times, and I'll reiterate: if the team had an identical record, but played every game like they did vs. Toronto a few games back, I'd be content. If not, trade guys to get younger and hungrier and look towards the future. Then combine it with proactive sell-jobs like Regehr/Leo deals, and I like the direction.

Very content, right now at least.
