Perron doesn't really fit their style but I think CStew would go 1st.

He would be looking at the biggest pay upgrade based on this season.

If the Blues make the play-offs Id be all over Feaster to see what it would take to get that 1st rounder, Id take MB in negotiations over Feaster any day.

The Bouwmeester trade is pretty fair value, IMO...the shine has worn off and he makes a lot of money. A 1st and a couple of average prospects seems right to me.
You mean you don't get the best deal when the player limits you to 3 teams he will play for , then forces you to take the worst of the offers on the table?

There's a limit to refuse giving up assets to get a good player who can boost your team. There's also quite a margin between selling the farm, and giving your players a giant "**** you" by not helping their chances in the playoffs.
You're assuming Bergevin didn't try. We don't know the details behind the competing bids, so for the moment I won't blame him for what he didn't do.

If there is a trade expect it to happen tomorrow, probably. We're in the middle of a game as I type this, so nothing's being completed right now (save the Cammalleri jokes please).

But if the worst-case scenario means we have Tinordi and Beaulieu on D, that ain't too bad. At some point - maybe sooner than we think - they'll be much better than all these 2nd and 3rd-pairing defensemen we're trying so hard to get through trades.

And if all we need then is size, teach Blunden to fight.

Honestly, if we had a chance at JBo, I feel we could've done better than STL's package. Disappointing to say the least.

No it's not, because we're using them all of 6 minutes per game on the road. We need other minutes eaters there.

What the? Bowmeester would bring what exactly to the Habs? His cap is terrible and he hasn't done squat since he left Florida. Keep the money and just get a good crease-clearing tough D and we'd be set defensively.

Is that a joke? He'd be at worst our 4th best defenseman and could possibly be our second best. He was acquired for ABSOLUTELY NO ROSTER PLAYERS. Would need some cap limbo for next season but he's an FA the year after that, so we can flip him back for some assets or sign him to something more manageable.

Either way, I just don't see how grabbing him could have been bad for the team.

I'm starting to think more and more that we just get some more depth and forget the bigger names out there. Seems the prices are ridiculous and the draft picks we have are way more valuable than the players they'd get, especially when considering we have some of the beat talent evaluators in Timmins, Dudley and Bergevin.

"@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Regehr deal to LA contingent on him passing a medical exam". Sabres get two 2nd round picks (2014 + 2015)

Interesting, no 2013 picks in the Regehr deal.

At worst the 4th defenceman? That seems like an extremely intelligent way to use $6.7 million of the cap.

It really is, there may be fire and not just smoke on how deep this draft is.

I doubt any players who have a NMC in their contract and any term remaining would veto a trade to Montreal. Would just cost them way too much money to come here.

Just getting traded to Montreal would cost Bouwmeester more than $725 000 next season.

Yeah, we totally need the 15M$ AAV cap space we have at the moment. Not like a 20+ minute a night defenseman.

You would pay 6.5 mil a season AND a 1st round pick for what could be our 4th defensmen??!! You and me don't value assets the same way.

It sucks to deal assets, but no one is going to give you a quality player for scraps.

And what happens next season when the cap goes down and Pacioretty/Desharnais get big raises?

Buyout Kaberle.

Potential trade options: Moen, Gionta.

It's not bad at all. Jaybo isn't paid forever. I would've taken him too. Jaybo-Gorges is an elite shutdown unit.

We're going to have about 10M$ of cap space with Kaberle gone (for 18 players, not including JBo). Like I said, a little cap limbo.
