We get on Torts after every loss.

I'm giving him some credit after a win. Nash-Step-Cally, Zucc-Richie-Gabby looked great.

Getting Staal back would help too.
i thought eminger played pretty well. to be fair, it seemed a lot of the winnipeg scoring chances came when eminger was on the ice. but i also saw some nice play from him, especially in the neutral zone.

Congrats to Henke, although his shootout wins mean for me personally that hes gotta pass Eddie by 40 to really be in 2nd.

Eminger and Hamrlik are both brutal, at least Roman knows his shortcomings and doesn't pinch in like Girardi does. I'd rather he hang back because he has no foot speed. Eminger is Eminger, but what can you do, one game at a time and before we know it Staal will be back and we will become even better. The guys miss Marc I can see it. He's the calming presence back there, our anchor.

I'll take the win but you cannot play Kreider 3 minutes, what is the point in that? Boyle and Pyatt suck, stick them on the fourth line put Kreider on the third and live with the mistakes! I see every team bolstering young kids throughout their lineups, do it here please. You might as well send Kreider down if he's gonna play 3 minutes

We need MCI lite, go trade for one. they are available for 5th rd picks. play physical, limit the mistakes in their own zone, no offensive skills, but they will clear the crease for you and bang somebody.

Emmy is just fine. Remember Bickel? That you should mind. Emmy is just finnnne.

Maybe we can pick up another guy but how serviceable the new guy is will be a question if we're only trading for 5th round pick calibre players.

NEW YORK Ė Thereís no question itís been an inconsistent season for the Rangers. That point canít be argued. The question is why have they been so inconsistent?

Certainly, some of their issues have been physical Ė injuries have played a role, as have scoring slumps. But perhaps the single greatest reason the team has struggled with its consistency has been a battle with confidence.

Thatís one emotion that seemed in high supply Monday night at Madison Square Garden, as the Rangers (17-15-3, 37 points, 8th in East) scored three unanswered goals to erase a second-period deficit and beat Winnipeg, 4-2.
The next graph of my story includes the answer Torts gave to my question about the team's confidence. Very interesting answer he gave to that:

The negative: This team continues to have 3 capable forwards. Stepan and whoever you put with him. I don't know how Boyle, Hamr and Eminger manage to overlook Antropov before the tying goal. Both defenders went into the corner, Boyle was at center and then decided to go into the corner as well. Those kind of plays just can't continue to happen if we want a shot at making the playoffs.
Hagelin has been off for a few games now.
Losing faceoffs in their own end has been a problem for a bit of time as well, I guess that's like that for every team. At least don't lose them cleanly.

Positive: Stepan is going to be one helluva player. Nash finally pulled the trigger instead of dangling half an hour to eventually have it poked away. Callahan played his best game in a year or so.
Gaborik and Richards have looked a lot better the last 2 games. Idk if it's playing with Zuccarello or not, but there's some improvement. I think Girardi played a solid game.
In theory, I kinda got the idea of putting Hagelin with Boyle and Miller, because he can be a spark to almost any line. Didn't work though.

Can't wait to get Staal back, so he pushes one of 40/44 out of the line up. I don't think we'll see much action at the deadline from Sather. Guess he'll try with this squad, and if it doesn't work out, try to trade Gaborik, Boyle and Pyatt at the draft or in the offseason.

Anyone have a link to Richards' slapshot on the empty net?
I didn't get to watch all of the game
Thanks!

I watched the game on a replay:

Rangers were a lot more composed and fluid off the Rush. Course Jets helped them by matching defensive locking schemes. If Jets were trapping, the Rangers might have not have had as many opportunities on the rush.

Zuc much better skating and defensively than in previous season. I hope he can keep it up

3rd line sucked…

We aren't very good down low in our end like we were last year. Rangers constantly get outmuscled below the hashmarks in the D zone. Even when they outnumber the opposing team.

A BIG problem for the Rangers in their offensive scoring woes. They simply do not get enough bodies in front of the net on the cycle. We are too much of a perimeter shooting team. Rangers got to get bodies in the crease.

Hamrlik looked poor. Bottom pairing is becoming an issue again.

Top 2 lines looked good. Not sure how I feel about Cally on the first line but he played well. Gabs obviously looks way better on RW.

Too many penalties. I'm looking at you Zucc.

A big issue with our point men shooting: They too often opt for a far end point shot instead of lateral skating into the high slot. Now, if the Dmen are being played man to man: Obviously, they can't move into the high slot. But many times when the Dmen are flipped the puck their defender is either trapped along the wall or caught down low. In those cases, the Dmen have to lateral skate and shift to better scoring areas.

Also, Miller/Krieder may get sent down by the trade deadline depending on what Sather does.

Rangers need Staal in the lineup ASAP. Out top 3 played a TON of minutes and our bottom pairing unit is giving almost no relief.

I still think the main issue with this team is that Torts is just incapable of giving tactical solutions for his lineup. I think the team has the effort(at least most of them).

But, I just see the same systemic issues night in and night out.

Nash should use his shot more often in semi-breaks. It's tough to go back hand between the bar and the skate every single time. Goalies are expecting it. Please just shoot the god damn puck.

Maybe... just maybe... this might be a good sign? If Staal's coming back in a few games, Torts is more comfortable rolling top 3 for now and then taking the pressure off once Staal's back. Dreaming.

Not sure if this is posted or said in zuke's interview, but according to Norwegian media he says the first penalty wasn't even his high stick and the last one he wasn't aware of...

Hags only has 3 points in his last 10 games. Gotta do something with that.

Kudos to Torts for those two top lines. I admire Richards for trying to end Gabby's slump, but man.. Just put the puck in the net the next time.

The two first lines looked amazing. It reminded me about the talent this team possesses in Stepan, Richards, Cally, Nash, Gaborik and now Zuccarello. Last year we OD:ed on grinders, this season we are lacking the same.

However, a few grit players may yet arrive and our top 6 will tear the EC up if they continue like this.

One game isn't enough though.. We need to replace Hamrlik/Eminger (or at least one of them, Staalsie is severely missed!).

Womp womp. The only thing worse than guys that take bad penalties are guys that make excuses for bad penalties. He should just say "I need to be more careful" and move on.

Did you listen to his postgame remarks?

Obviously it's his responsibility to look into rule changes when coming over, but you can't fault him for saying (and rightly so) that he wasn't the one who actually commited the first high stick, and then jokingly saying he's glad he was the one who had to sit since Steps plays the PK.

He went on to thank his team mates for bailing him out on his three penalties.
