Ahh, that's right, forgot about his pay rate.

If it was even Gaborik and we could add a little depth to go with him, I would still find Dubinsky as an attractive piece to bring back. I don't think adding a Nash at any point is really a bad move, I stay by getting Gaborik especially because at the time this team was lacking a true pure goal scorer but things have changed.

Prust would be nice, but it's entirely too much money for a bottom six guy. I really think he maxes as a 3rd line player and PKer whereas Brandon can at times, when on top of his game, fill in as a top 6 player.

Brooks doesn't expect anything big:

Indeed, The Post has learned there is essentially no league-wide chatter regarding Gaborik, who not only has scored only one goal in his last 13 games and two in his last 22, but has somehow scored on just two of his last 70 shots. That is almost a mathematical impossibility for a sniper who entered the season with a career 13.3 shooting percentage, but is at 7.9 percent this season.

According to sources, there is considerable interest in Brian Boyle, who logged 17:40 last night in what sure looked like a showcase. Despite a miserable season, the 6-foot-7 center has the size coveted by Cup contenders. Of course, he has the size coveted by the Rangers as well.

Sather, of course, is going to seek to improve his eighth-place team. He will attempt to strengthen the blue line, especially with Marc Staal’s return in doubt. He will attempt to add grit and strength on the wings.

But the GM won’t be playing with a strong hand. And it makes no sense for him or the Rangers to deal away future potential aces. Better to stand pat than try that.

Last night’s victory does not and cannot alter that reality.

Makes sense. This season was that one year gap of prospects who will be in the very least the AHL next year.

The two Swedes (Fasth/Lindberg) are VERY important to the Rangers future having high upside and on entry level deals. They will be over soon.

Between guys like Jean, Thomas, Hrivik, St. Croix, Yogan, and even McColgan and Nicholls, I would hope at least one and maybe two make the varsity squad next year.

Boyle played well last night but he has no offensive ability. The only way to trade him is to get a 3rd and something else (energy prospect with moderate upside?). They'll have profited that way.

Stay away from Clowe if it's going to cost a small fortune.

I'd love to get Dubi back but CLB gotta take Pyatt and Asham and Boyle needs to go somewhere else as well to offset the cap issues.

Pyatt for Torres
Boyle, Gilroy, Asham and 2 thirds for mcBain & J Jokinen and a 4th
Call up Haley
Give Fast and McIllraith both a cup of coffee

Or just Boyle+ for mcBain and
Asham, Jean/Yogan and a 3rd for another rental center (Antropov, Connolly?, or maybe take a chance that Weiss can play this year?)
Would both help the team a bit now and free up cap space for next year without gutting the prospect park too much.
We are not going very far anyways judging by our play this year. Last night was a win, but hardly impressive...

The Rangers have 49 contracts. They can only add one player without needing to shed a player contract. The Rangers have a big game tomorrow night. It wouldn't be crazy to assume they would want a full complement of players for the game tomorrow night.

Why does Phoenix want Pyatt back?

According to Eklund, the Sharks are working on an extension for Clowe with the potential acquiring team and possibly adding a "big money scorer" .

It's not Sather's MO to trade for a player and extend him right away. He pays the rental price and negotiates in the offseason

He stated more like the Sharks will trade Clowe then in a separate trade add a big money scorer.

Grabbing at straws again Ek! Besides the rangers don't have any goal scorers.

If that is true regarding the interest in Boyle, now is the time to strike.

Remember that Paul Gaustad was a pending UFA and returned a No. 1 pick at last year's deadline.

This is a seller's market. You combine that with Sather's voo-doo and I would not be shocked to see a low # 1 returned for Boyle.

Maybe in the KHL draft get whatever you can for him and run!

Or just keep the pick considering they don't have a 1st this year?

Is Boyle that irreplaceable? Torts had Boyle on PP last night. Showcase. He lost the face-off clean on the 2nd Winnipeg goal. Miller screwed up by just standing there but Boyle lost that face-off. If Sather and Gorton can cash in on Boyle to acquire a core asset, they should do it. Trade for a role player to replace Boyle. Guys like Powe are available. Boyle and Powe provide the same amount of offense.

Boyle is very popular in the locker room... Shouldn't minimize that...

Dubinsky didn't bring a lot on the ice over long stretches but was always important in the locker room too.

And Boyle lost that faceoff but stats say he's going to lose that face off at least 4 times out of 10. MIller can't stand there and stare. That's beer league stuff.

Agreed. @RangerBoy, I generally agree with what you're saying and i do agree that if they can get a core asset (I.E. high 2nd rounder, 1st round pick, etc, you do it for Boyle) but pointing out one faceoff and saying that's why we should trade him is absurd.

Hate on Boyle all you want, but let's give credit where it's due. He's very good at faceoffs, especially on a team that really doesn't have many guys who can consistently win them. That goal was completely on Miller. Absolute AHL level boneheaded play. I expect those mistakes from him, but it's why he should be in the A. THose kinds of mistakes are not acceptable in the NHL.

Meh. There are certain guys - a very few - for whom "locker room presence" is truly irreplaceable. Quite frankly, they tend to be guys who are also leading players - or at the very least former stars who are now mentoring kids. Sure, there are guys who are "good in the room", but they're replaceable by other guys who are "good in the room".

We're not talking about Mark Messier (the '94 version) here, folks. If Boyle's locker room presence was really so valuable, it seems to me the team would be doing a lot better than .500, no?

If there's a good deal to be had for him, he should be gone.

I late first for Boyle would be unreal, but even if you could manage to land a 2nd then go for it. Perhaps a 2nd a couple of 3rds gets you into the first round.

Regehr just got 2 2nd round picks. Gaustad brought in a 1st last year. We might be able to land a nice asset or two for Boyle...

Really Miller and Kreider should be back down and this is the time you bring in some vets to replace them.

Both kids have a great future but this is risky going with them right now
