That would be hilarious if we got Ovechkin. We are running out of star players to acquire with this group, which gets more embarrassing by the year, of course.

So how can they afford Gabby then?

They can't. We don't want Gabby.

Technically we could afford him (if we traded Boyle) but then we wouldn't be able to replace Boyle. It's counter productive, at best we net sum out about the same.

Boyle creates a ton of offense, even when he's not getting points he is integral to the scoring. He is our best player at moving the puck from the defensive zone to the offensive zone, our best player at holding the blue line, and our best pinching defensemen (Burns is close though). Without Boyle, we not only lose his ~50 points, but we likely lose a good chunk of points from the team on top of it. Does Gaborik make up for that? Maybe... But we'd really be better off getting a new #2 first (let Burns take over Boyle's spot and replace Burns, which is less costly).

I don't dislike Gaborik, I just don't really see how it helps us.

I assume he is thinking of Gaborik: Extended Clowe+Boyle for Gaborik+Balancing Pick?

What do you think? Who are the other "big money scorers" available?

Yes, I know, it's Eklund..

if they are freeing the space, than logically, they will not trade with another playoff team. So its NOT Gáborík.

Rangers will trade Gáborík only if they get the same momentally value, like Patrick Marleau, but if you trade Marleau for Gáborík, you will not need to free space. its piece for piece, the same cap hit.

If Eklund is right(happens from time to time), its the trade with the Calgary,Colorado,Florida,Buffalo,Tampa or Phila.

Hmmm.... Gaborik is a good fit in SJ!

Gaborik for Boyle straight up. B. Boyle for Clowe afterwards.

We don't need him and Boyle for Clowe is a bad offer.

This is just Eklund trying to get some hits on his site.

Oh my god, did you just think that up yourself? You are so innovative.

We don't want Brian Boyle, at all, even for free, especially not for Clowe.

As production less as Gabby has been its still a big gamble to trade him for another JAM guy who has zero goals this year.

Rangers #1 issue by far...by far... Is scoring.

Trading a guy who is top 3 in goals the last few years seems counter intuitive.

One thing Sather is... A great trader.
