I love Foligno but I think he needs to still focus on his game and not being a leader right now.

None. The Sabres captaincy is such a circus at this point. Let it rest.

If we're going to slap the C on guys who recently have been demoted to the 4th line, I nominate Stafford.

Hodgson is a year removed from whining his way out of the team that drafted him, just got demoted to the 4th line, and we're talking about him as the next captain? Apparently if you talk like a politician and do the only true workout in the world with Gary Roberts, you are future captain material.

Or he's a guy that Captained a Gold medal WJC team. A guy Pat Quinn called a "born leader".
And your the leading sophomore scorer in the NHL... And you are a top 15 ES scorer in the NHL.

Get a grip. It's perfectly reasonable to not back Hodgson as a captain at this point (I'd agree), but the rest of what you say is kind of ridiculous. So he's spending some time off the top line, big deal. The team's a hot mess. If you're predicting that he'll "whine his way" out of Buffalo in a year, I'll put money up against you.

No, I just don't think his actions in the NHL so far have suggested captaincy and that he has a lot of ground to cover before he gets there. The way things went down in Vancouver set him back in terms of leadership pecking order IMO. That's the type of thing you have to work to erase and doesn't just go away in a year. How his upcoming contract negotiations go are critical. If he holds out or demands more than he's with, it will be very telling about his character.

I'd say that depends on the terms of the rebuilding process. Only certain thing for me is to finish this season with 3 A.

If rebuild time is short enough that Vanek extends, then make him captain. Austrian newspapers are going insane then . Ott and Ehrhoff should get an A.

If Vanek can't be extended because of a longterm rebuild, give the C to Ehrhoff, with Ott and one of the "new core" (preferably Hodgson) serving as A.

Ott is a little bit too mouthy to be a captain, imho.

Yep. I think the next guy to get the C isn't on the team yet. I would hope trading away at least one of the big three names will return an experienced captain or a young quality leader.

I could see Hodgson, Ott, and Ehrhoff getting A's.

Fine with Hodgson or Ehrhoff - the only two untouchables on this roster IMO.

No. You let him grow a bit more as a player first. He has other things to deal with right now. An A is fine, but not a C at this point.

Yea, if you give it to anyone on this team (as the current roster stands), then it almost has to be Ehrhoff.

I'll wait until next season to see. No clear captains on this team yet.

The only player on this roster I would give the C to is Ott....I don't see one other player who has his leadership qualities - plus he can put up a few points as well....If it' not going to be Ott, then it will have to be someone they either trade for or pick up through FA

I know that folks here have a fixation on Ott right now, but he would not be a good captain. He does brings some good qualities to the team. However, you do not want a captain that challenges someone to a fight and then skates away so he can draw a penalty. Or who doesn't necessarily defend his teammates if they take cheap shots.

No one right now. Wait to see what the team looks like next year if the roster gets a makeover. See who emerges as a leader.

One game on the fourth line negates the fact he's spent the entire year on the top line?

I wouldn't give it to anyone right away if Pommer is dealt, that's a given... Ideally the next coach lets the players vote on who it should be, maybe over the summer or right at the beginning of training camp. I love Hoff and definitely think he deserves an A, but personally would rather have either someone younger or someone who has been with the team for a longer period of time to have the C. If Vanek is still on the team, maybe give it to him as a bridge guy for someone to eventually take over when he's gone.
