Nikita Zaitsev is rumored to CSKA...is he that much better, than Ozhiganov, Marchenko, Sergeev, Naumenkov and the likes?
The way I see it - he is. He's already playing like a vet, all situations, eating up more minutes than any of these guys seen so far, good both ways, right-handed shot - quality which is pretty pretty hard to find in Russian D (not between those ones you've listed though). Since he's easily the best undrafted D of his age group (while these you've listed are pretty regular Joes) CSKA would be wise to get their hands on him as early as they can.
And I'm fairly certain Marchenko will be signed by the Red Wings for next season.
Merely a rumor but Ilari Melart (HIFK)->KHL, possibly SKA (assuming they don't sack Jalonen).
The current leading scorer in the playoffs, Justin Acevedo (10. 9+8=17) from Lukko Rauma has apprently signed with TPS Turku (would make 200K € after taxes which means regular salary would about 400K) but has received an offer from Lev Praha that would pay him $900K over two seasons. Other clubs are interested in him as well. Seems the only reason he signed with TPS was because they were willing to give him a KHL clause that would allow him leave to KHL before the end of August with no compensations.
Edit: source for the Melart rumor was poster at jatkoaika.com, I don't know whether the psoter knowledge or not. The Acevedo rumor was in Ilta-Sanomat today.
I agree, he had made strides, but what's to say, that Marchenko and Ozhiganov won't? I disagree that either is average Joe as you say. As far as Naumenkov goes, he will be a beast one day.
Yes Naumenkov was great before his injury. Very disapointed that he missed the WJC.
BTW there is an article on google that says Zaytsev will probably get drafted to NHL this year. Some reporter was talking to an agent who was scouting him at the game the reporter was at.. Doesn't mean he leaves yet though. There is an older article on NHL.com that says he wants to stay in Russia until he is ready for the NHL.
quote of player/agent? Or just an idea/speculation of fans
Melart's agent said today that Melart won't play in Finland next year. Basiclly the options are NHL () and KHL. And he is not good enough for NHL, so Melart will play the next season in KHL.
Melart is a hard playing defenceman, who was still last year almost a joke of a player. He steped up this season and scored 7+11 in 50 games. Melart also impoved his defencing game a lot and IMO became also more physical. I also have a feeling that Melart is or can become a good leader. Melart did not play well in the playoffs, but whole HIFK was a mess there. He showed his potential in regular season.
I think Leo Komarov was in a same kind of situation as Melart is now. Komarov had flashed some in Finland but was still remembered as a rat and a agitator with no skills. Then Komarov went to Dynamo and improved a lot of his offensive skills, leadership and fittness. Komarov improved a lot in KHL and steped up to a whole new level. I think Melart can do the same. Although it was easier for Leo because he speaks fluent russian.
http://www.iltalehti.fi/smliiga/2013...57709_sm.shtml There you go. Melart's agent Ilkka Larva says, that Jokerit haven't made an offer and that Melart will play in either NHL or KHL. Melart confirmes this but dosen't say wich one is more likely, NHL or KHL. He says he will look it with the agent when the season is over.
Not likely that they would go to KHL. So far only established 25+ year old players from Finland have gone to the KHL with a few exceptions like Jori Lehterä. This could change in the future though if the KHL expansion continues or if the foreign player limit is disbanded.
