So, the Isles need at least one more center for next year. I highly, highly doubt that the Isles want to just hand both Strome and Nelson top-9 center spots. In fact, even as an Isles fan I will say that it is doubtful that they both end up better than Nielsen. Law of averages on prospect development.

And, there is no way the Isles are going to trade a center now, in the middle of a playoff race, because they might have too many centers down the road.

The quote said that the Hawks were looking at Nielsen, not that the Isles have any interest in trading him. Unless you want to dramatically overpay, there is no way you will get him from the Isles.
This is a great post.

This rumor is somewhat old and came out before the Hawks got Handzus. With how valuable Nielsen is to the Isles, the fact they are in the hunt, and the fact that Bowman already said no roster players would likely get traded, I'd say Frans won't become a Hawk.

Streit is another story. The Hawks were near a deal for Visnovsky and are rumored to be interested in JML and Yandle in addition to Streit. It looks as though they want a deal for a defenseman with offensive upside to help with the PP.

I mean, why bother? Really?

sounds like old news and after getting Handzus, I don't see why Bowman wants to add another Center thats not a sure upgrade over Bolland at the #2 C spot

No disrespect to the Isles or their fans but if the Islanders get in the playoffs and finish 7th or 8th. That means you draw Pittsburgh or Boston. Not exactly a great playoff match up for them. It would be best for them to give us Nielsen cause you could help our Cup chances, if they don't trade us Nielsen then they better upset either one of those teams and possibly help us out in a different way. I'm looking at this deal from a selfish hawks fan point of view.

No disrespect to fans of contenders who apparently have no perspective, but there's significant value to the franchise and players to make the postseason that first time in 6 years. The Kings had to sneak in a few times with no better chance of winning it all than the Islanders did before they were able to go the distance. It's important for the Islanders (and Oilers, and other young teams) to just make it to the show.

I would LOVE Yandle on this team.

If Nielsen's going to be traded, it won't be until the offseason.

I agree. The Hawks had made the playoffs once in 10 years before the 08-09 season. The Hawks went from 88 pts the year before to 104, still most ppl thought Calgary and Vancouver would beat us since we were so green. Difference is the Hawks were a better team than Isles have been this year and also didn't draw the Wings who were the #1 seed that year in the first round. I hope the Isles can do what they did back in 1993 2nd round series against the Pens when David Volek drove a dagger through Super Mario and co.

Nielsen + Streit for Shaw + Bollig and Leddy. That seems fair from an Isles perspective.

I think they'd be steamrolled against either Pittsburgh or Boston.

Montreal has a 3 pt lead on Boston. If the season ended today, the Habs would be the #2 seed. Isles are 2 pts behind NJ, who hold the #7 seed. Isles have matched up well against Montreal this season.

At this point, I don't care who they play so long as they get in.

According to Staple, Snow's not moving Frans.

Dreger tweeted today that extension talks with Steit are stalled, that Snow doesn't want to deal him, but to expect teams to call about Streit anyway.

Whether it's fair or not, it's not what we need.

Tim Sassone is a hack.

He has a history of making up trade ideas then hiding behind unnamed sources. From the looks of Isles fans here there is nothing to this. Move along.
