Defenseman Ole Kristian Tollefsen staying in Sweden (Mod update)

I heard today he "The Norwegian Nightmare" has more or less agreed to terms with the Preds from next season. Norwegian media reports. Preds also tried to sign him last year, but Tollefsen said no thanks. I'm sure it will be a one-way contract, otherwise he wont sign.

So, you are obviously in need of a physical D-man who will drop the gloves?

I was just thinking that we didn't have enough fringe\bottom pairing defensemen!

No this is fact, reported by media in Norway and Sweden where he plays now (SEL). Tollefsen also made a comment.

He played several seasons for the Blue Jackets, then signed with the Flyers, traded to the Red Wings where he only spent time in the minors. Then headed for Sweden. Searching youtube you'll find plenty of his fights.

I remember us trying to get him before and seeing that he has improved his play since leaving the NHL. I remember him being very good during the Olympics, but I don't really know what he did this year.

If this is true, Poile must be planning on trading Ellis and Blum for something bigger.

I just wonder about Ellis if the Preds think Ekholm is ready.

The article isn't translated too well. Does it say that we haven't yet decided anything? And does it say he'll start playing next year? I'm confused.

I guess Ekholm could stay in the minors, but having Blum being the permascratch again doesn't make sense.

Really we could move Hannan and Gill for picks, then Ellis for a nice player and still have a decent group next year.

Somehow I knew, I just knew that article meant we'd be seeing a certain somebody here before long...

Tollefsen's contract will not be registered until next season due to the fact that he would have to clear waivers to play for the Predators this season. Had he been on the Predators reserve list this season and playing in Europe he would not have had to clear waivers and could join the team for this season, but the Predators had no claim to his rights at the start of the season.

He wasn't very impressive on the Jackets - even for a Jacket. I hope it's just a rumor.

I hope he's improved in every facet of his game to be a top 4, or this'll go down as another mark on this ownership group as taking the cheap way out instead of actually going out and getting true talent at the positions in dire need (Clune, Boychuk, Butler, Blum & Bartley) (Josi replaced Suter, who replaced Josi ?) ... I see two of those guys in that list right above that haven't panned out.

Jackets was six years ago, he still plays top league hockey, of course he has improved. He's actually captain of his team in SEL, that should tell you a few things.

But I think the Preds are after him for his toughness, or lets say a good d-man with the ability to drop the gloves if necessary.

Unless he's learned when NOT to drop the gloves or hit somebody, he's not going to be a good defenseman.

When's the last time we signed a defenseman that didn't turn out okay?

I don't think he'll fight much if/when he returns because I think one of his "demands" was to be a hockey player and not a goon, but yes, he has transitioned his game to a good defensive d-man who checks hard and blocks shots. Eats minutes too without, just don't expect him to put up points.

Not captain of his current team in SEL, but they are the top contender for the championship, and he is a vital part of that team. He is captain of Team Norway, and a big part of the national teams success the last few years. He was also the captain on his last team in SEL.

You mention Grebeshkov, but cut him some slack. He was nailed in the grapes before getting hardly any games in for us. No one could've survived that.

Didn't that shot happen in the first period, and he still finished the game before surgery?

My last standing boy would have branded me a traitor if I would have toughed it out in that situation.
