What a fantastic move. He helps a great deal in the short term and I'm really hoping Gillis finds a way to re-sign him, as he'd be something that could put the team over the top.

Roy is a 2nd line playmaking center.
He isn't a mediocre bottom 6 player. Considering what other players have been traded for recently, it's a good price.

Given what players have gone for this is a steal. This better not be the only trade though.

I could not disagree more. A late 2nd for roy and k-con is a steal.

Love it. Didn't have to give up our 1st and got rid connauton whom I've long argued does not have long term NHL potential.

A coup by gillis. Hopefully we can resign roy in the offseason.

He's scored all of 4 so far this season. But I'm sure they were all clutch, highlight reel material.

KConn is not a prospect, so really just a 2nd rounder.
Good addition.
Not a big fan of assets for rentals, but Roy could possibly help us salvage the season (and possibly our PP).

Nice try. Roy is one of the most productive centremen in the NHL over the last 7 years. 1 down year last season doesn't change that.

Anyone still think we should throw in the towel this season?

Centers aren't exactly at a discount - so yeah, I'm very surprised Roy came so cheap in light of what other inferior players (regardless of position) got. Didn't the Preds pony up a 1st round pick for a 3rd line center last season?

Gillis doesn't do rental, so I suspect we have at least a decent chance of re-signing him. He's also a legit 2nd line talent still in his prime, way better than anything Nonis gave away picks for.

Makes us smaller not softer.

Its actually adds a playmaking element to this team after the twins.

And its been missing for a few years now.

Roy is 1st-2nd line C, a guy that shouldered the offensive load and produced.

Move kesler to wing.

? - roy - Kesler.

aren't the canucks interested in clowe?

clowe - roy - kesler.

muscle - playmaking - scoring.

Booth... I don't even want to repeat...

What does he have this year? 3 goals, 2 more than Booth?

What about the last 3 years? That is a more realistic basis for future projection.

If they can get him for under $5 re-signed I'll be ok with it, I don't like rentals. Look at Nonis' history here.

Roy isn't a marginally productive forward. He's scoring at a 60 point pace this season with an unsustainably low shoot percentage. He's a true talent 60-70 point player.

Nonis gave up a similar return for a 4th/5th defenceman (Carney), a 2nd/3rd line centre (Smolinski), and a goalie that played 4 games for the team (Noronen)

This is huge. Roy is 1 season removed from being a consistent point per game player. Absolutely huge .

This should also put to bed the ridiculous notion that Vancouver and Dallas won't trade with each other.

Hopefully we don't get Clowe because you can bet this board will go nuts at what Gillis gives up.

Oh, I see. So we're giving away picks for aging players who are showing signs of being over the hill, but we think we can resurrect their careers.

Cool.

This is not going to turn out well...and yes, I realize many of you have a different opinion at the moment. All I can say is I watched many of you wax exuberant over some of Nonis's deadline deals, too. And we all know how those turned out...
