He's just ripping Housley.

Thanks for your thoughts. He was at development camp last year so this was sort of an on the radar possibility.

Like Langway said that was directed at Housley not this kid

I'm very excited hearing about him actually!! If he plays physical then I'm sold

Housley was one of the best puck carrying Dmen and PP conductors ever. He got torched on D in the Cup Finals against the Red Wings and looked bad but we wouldn't have gotten that far without him.

Ok, he wasn't quite Bobby Orr or Ray Bourque but if this Schmidt kid plays that style and hits then I'm all for it.

His was a shot at (US) HOF'er Phil Housley, not Schmidt....forgive him.

My apologies to you then. Sorry for misreading that.

Nate will play physical but don't expect him to be like a Marty McSorley/enforcer type of guy. If you do, you'll be disappointed. Nate's just not that type of player nor will he likely ever be.

All you can ask and exactly what we need. We have Erskine/Oleksy for that already and also have a couple punching bags in a pinch.

Hope he pans out

Oilers Chick, did you watch him at all when he was tried at forward?

Happy to have another decent prospect, but this seems to be the low risk high reward move that GMGM keeps going after.

Other interesting things from the main boards:

Quote:
the pp is set up to get Bjugstad one timers from the left side/circle most of the time
So he's already familiar with and pretty good in a power play similar to the one Oates runs.

Quote:
If Justin Schultz could play defense, he'd be Nate Schmidt
Just building the hype train!

I understand the general George hate, but there's no reasonable way to spin this move negatively. He was one of the best college UFAs available, and fills a role that exactly one person in the organization is capable of: LH offensive defenseman.

Yep. And I think his experience with the organization in development camp probably helped sway him to sign (which is the opposite of what some would have you believe).

It is, if these are the moves he continues to make. How many of these has he made this year?

If we are going to build a good team, it is probably going to take a bold move. Ribs was probably it and he made a laughable extension offer.

Yes and he played very well as a forward. (I believe he was converted to D in high school, but not absolutely sure)

Thanks for the response. I'm not super interested in him at forward, just think it may have helped develop some of his plus attributes like stick handling and confidence with the puck.

Congrats on the signing. I watched a lot of Gopher games and he's been excellent in the games I've watched.

You misunderstood. He was referring to someone comparing him to Phil Housley.

Yes and we'll all be stuck in the 3rd street tunnel in the purple ticket line and miss the entire event.
