He's a RW according to eliteprospects. 6'4'' kid with decent college numbers. 24 years old, will be 25 before next season's start.

If he was a defenseman that size with those numbers, there's no way he wouldn't have been drafted. He's a RW.

EDIT:

Corey Pronman ‏@coreypronman 4m
.@FriedgeHNIC saying Sharks could sign Eriah Hayes, a senior from Minnesota State. A big power forward with about average skill.

I assume he'll report to Worcester.

I would like to pitch into this debate, having absolutely no knowledge of this player at all, he's obviously a goalie.

Hayes is a RW.

If this signing does happen. It'll be a great signing by the Sharks. I saw him play quite a bit at Minnesota State.

I hope you all like sandpaper-type power forwards that have a cannon of a shot that's pretty darn good on the power play because that what Hayes is/brings.

Perfect. Ryane Clowe replacement already.

In all seriousness, what's his skating like? With those sorts of attributes, I imagine he's not a great skater.

And lastly, I assume he'll be assigned to Worcester, neh?

Yep...the 'usual' description of his is a big, physical winger with a scoring touch. I had thought SJ might be interested in him but didn't think he'd sign considering the other options he'd have.

Hayes actually skates pretty well. In fact, it's been one area where that has really improved over the course of his career. He's not a speed demon but he does have a powerful stride with good acceleration and gets around the rink pretty well.

Hayes will need time in Worcester. If, for no other reason, to adjust and acclimate himself to the speed and rigors of the pro game.

Had a great conversation with MSU head coach Mike Hastings last night and was told that a certain senior captain signed with the SJ Sharks

Who?

Desjardins was a free agent too. Tarasov looks like he might be a good one.

Sharks are pretty good at it actually.

My cousin Chris has him at #6 amongst top 10 available college free agents:
http://unitedstatesofhockey.com/2013...ated-march-20/

Also, the Sharks have been okay with college free agents. They don't cost anything but money (and valuable spots in Woostah, right 210?), but we've some gotten value from them.

Irwin, Desjardin, Tennysson look to be solid/borderline NHL players for free. I'd take that over our recent 3rd round picks, which have been Greiss, 2 busts (Pielmeier, Daniels), two in limbo (Gaede, Sefton), and one that I certainty hope continues to ply his craft abroad (Sexsmith). Okay Sexsmith can be included as a bust, but I've been waiting for him to be involved in a transaction so I can use that line.

I believe Anaheim and NJ have been excellent in this area.
