With Calgary losing Iggy, JayBow, and potentially more, I don't see how we will draft any higher than 2nd overall.

2nd: Nathan MacKinnon
15 - 20: Petan / Lazar / Pulock
26 - 30: Hägg / Horvat / Hartman

Hopefully after this draft people will stop saying "the cupboards are bare!"

I also think we will get a few more 2nd/3rd rounders. Hopefully 3 of them combined.
It would be amazing to have 7-picks in the top 90!

I know what you mean, but we pretty much need everything.

Our G and LW look solid, but our C, RW, D look terrible. Hopefully one of those positions turns into a strength after this draft!

In all honesty, I think I'd rather see McDavid next year, Jones this year. One has to assume that Calgary will end up in the 24-30 range due to a lack of sufficient talent on the ice.

If Calgary drafts even one goaltender inside the first four rounds, I'm going to lose it, I really will. That goaltender will have to be the next Roy, Hasek, Brodeur and Sawchuk combined before I forgive a waste of a pick like that.

I think you take the best player available at the positions of either C or D with all the 1st round picks; when the pick comes up - take the best C or D on the board

So if that means we end up with the 1st overall pick - I think you have to take Jones

If we end up with a top 5 pick and Jones is gone - take who you think is ranked higher of the available centers that include Mackinnon/Barkov/Monahan

Between 16 - 21; hopefully get one of the following Pulock/Gauthier/Morrissey

Between 26 - 30; hopefully get one of the following Hagg/Hartman/Petan/Compher

Try to get either 2 D and 1 C or 2 C and 1 D
In my opinion you currently build your team in the NHL around Centers & Defensemen

I can see the Flames targetting Jones, but I don't think they'll finish high enough to get him. I think they either land MacKinnon or Barkov.

I dont think Jones is the right guy right now (if we get 1st overall).

You cant build a team around a future super star D, but you can do it around a C.

I know Jones isn't in the same conversation, but "Defence wins championships" and Lidstrom would like to have a word with you.

Fact of the matter is, there's many more good/great young centres available in drafts, but getting a sure-fire top-pairing defenceman is difficult, only slightly better than drafting for a goaltender. They take longer to develop, they have to play smart - hell, barely anyone on HFBoards even knew Karlsson existed 4 years ago.

I don't want to end up in Edmonton's situation from the last 3 years - all offence, no defence, no wins, no balance.
I'm not saying that players like Barkov are a bad choice. But I think we need a new defensive stalwart because players like Bouwmeester don't grow on trees.

McDavid isn't eligible until 2015. Next year's top picks are likely one of Ekblad, Virtanen, Reinhart, Draisatl, Goldobin, Nylander, Ritchie.

So is Ekblad.

If we draft MacKinnon this year, and land another lottery pick, I want Ekblad (as of right now..) Damn it! I have rebuild fever... This sucks...

The more I watch Nichuskin the more I like him. The guy looks like Malkin. Only problem is he's a couple years out because of his contract

Take Jones if he's there. If you're going to rebuild, start with the D.
Get those stud defencemen in place. They'll take a number of years to become the players you need. But that's the way to do it. Like Chicago got Keith and Seabrook before they landed Towes and Kane.

I don't think we will take MacKinnon and I think Reinhart will be a better player he has unreal vision and is a better 2-way player.

I know what type of player Reinhart is... I guess what I was trying to say:

If we take the #1 C this draft, we probably take the #1D next draft... or vice-versa.
_________
Side note:
Do you have something against MacKinnon as a player? Or am I just reading to much into a few of your posts?

Nothing against him I just don't see the same level of skill as others. He has Drouin who I would rate higher as he creates more of the offense and I prefer Barkov as well because I feel they have the same amount of skill but Barkov has problems with his skating but you can teach skating you can teach size. I think Mackinnon is #4 on my draft list
#1. Barkov
#2. Jones
#3. Drouin
#4. MacKinnon

If I had it my way we would take Barkov,Hagg, trade up for Mueller.
Then next year we suck and get Reinhart.
We end up with
Sven - Barkov -
JG - Reinhart - Jankowski
- Renhart - Horak
Aliu - Bouma -

- Brodie
Hagg - Mueller
Kulak - Selioff

Not to worry, we suck so badly I strongly believe we will be in the running for McDavid next year.

Agreed, I would take Drouin or Jones this year, if were top 3 and both are gone, you take Mackinnon, if Jones is left, you take him, Drouin, him. No chance Barkov goes top 3 IMO.

Like someone else said, you get BPA and go from there, next year you have Reinhart and Ekblad as the consensus top 2 picks. If you take Jones this year, take Reinhart next and vice versa. IMO i would take Jones now, and Reinhart next year as i think Jones>Ekblad and Reinhart>Mackinnon.

In terms of this years draft, i want:

Our pick: Jones/Drouin
St. Louis pick: Shinkaruk, Morrissey, Mantha
Pitts: Petan (I think he is going to be a big steal)

Get that, and we would have a VERY successful draft.

Mcdavid is a 2015 draft pick.

Next year is Ekblad/Reinhart.

True, same concept still applies

I have this horrific feeling that we are going to end up 4th and reach for a guy like Pulock...

Just seems like a Flames move.

In his (her?) defense, that was when we were still optimistic about this season and might be picking in the teens.

I don't think we're trading down (and adding Gaudreau to boot) to get Monahan now.
