Say Holland chooses firesale mode and we ship out Cleary, Flip, Miller, Quincey and White...

We still have:

Franzen Zetterberg Nyquist
Tatar Datsyuk Abdelkader
Sammy Andersson Brunner
Eaves Emmerton Tootoo
Bertuzzi/Helm

Kronwall Ericsson
Kindl Colaicovo
Smith Dekeyser
Lashoff

Is that roster much worse than the roster we put out there any other night of the season>

IMO, the answer is no.

I agree, but it will never happen.

Hasn't the mantra of the season been to let the kids play, though? Bring up Tatar and you're good to go.

He also says he wants a top six winger and top four d-man. A rebuilding team doesn't sell off assets for rentals or veterans.

Holland is running out of time to sell all the useless garbage on this team. There are plenty of moronic GM's in the NHL. Unfortunately it looks like Holland is one of them.

Holland is letting indecisiveness make decisions for him.

It's the worst kind of decision making

But I don't see that happening. We lost Hudler this offseason and who did we replace him with? Samuelsson? If we trade Filppula it will only push Cleary back into the top 6.

That's why I don't want to trade Filppula for more picks and prospects that won't be around for 5-7 years. I don't think this team is that far away from contending.

Wouldn't it be funny if the Bruins get trolled again. I want 'em to get the deals done though, good for us if a future divison rival can move away some assets.

If you could get even 2 2nds for Flip
a second or third for Cleary
A 2nd for Quincey
a 2nd for White
A 4th for Miller...

What a score that would be... even if spread out over 2-3 years

I'd be fine with trading Filppula and White for picks. We're not a cup contender, just barely in the playoffs. Get whatever return there's to get for those two since they won't be here next year anyway. Play Tatar/Nyquist on the 2nd line and the 8 D men that are left. Best case scenario is we'll be able to trade for a higher 1st with the picks from Val/White, if necessary.

Agreed but that unfortunately wont happen. That also allows us to hold on to our picks and prospects and make a trade for a top 4 forward in the offseason and a top 4 D-man.

Especially if it was an early second round pick for Quincey. Holland could almost salvage last years mistake.

Rest is just gravy.

If the decisions made by the staff this frustrating, and if everyone can do a better job than the GM, then what's the point of following this team anymore? Is it that tied into your happiness that every move this team makes has to be perfect, and no down seasons are allowed? That's sad.

Every season should have a purpose. Wings have squandered this season by not seeing what Tatar and Nyquist can do with a full season of NHL experience.

Smith getting a full season under his belt should pay dividends next season.

Progress can be made without winning. Unfortunately this season is shaping up to be a total waste of time.

What have we learned this year?

We already knew the Wings were a playoff team with Z/Dats and some veterans. We already knew this team wasn't good enough to contend for a cup before the season started. Yet Holland did nothing and kept the band together.

So, If I am Buying---

I offer
Quincey + Jensen (or 2nd) for Robidas.

I offer Nyquist + Cleary + 1st for Gaborik

And I still sell White for a 2nd.

If I am selling:
I am moving Flip, Cleary, Quincey, White, Miller Eaves

Well Streit is definitely available since it seems the Islanders wont be able to come to terms with him. I have a feeling.....

Deadline prediction:

White for a 2nd
Flip for something but not a first. If he is not traded he is going to get 5m/yr if he stays here.

Thats it, nothing crazy just typical post lockout (1st one) Wings. Don't give up anything and don't make any real progress.

Cleary (loyalty), Miller (not really worth much), Q(wont admit a mistake) all stay.

Playoffs, we finish 7 or 8 and lose in 5 in Chi or 6 to Ana. Streak stays alive which I actually want, no desire to tank for a pick.

Typing this made me feel a little bummed out.

Would love to see this happen. the 5 players you listed to ship out mean absolutely nothing to the current or long-term success of this team. Cleary, Miller and White can all be replaced from within and, if Flip can't be replaced from within, he's pretty damn close. Grab a FA in the offseason (preferably one with size and some grit) and this team is bigger, faster and a lot younger.
