Also, TOR signs G Drew MacIntyre off an AHL deal to an NHL deal for balance of season. He, too, is therefore on waivers today.

Also, per McKenzie, the just-signed Drew MacIntyre is also on waivers.

Just a heads up, these are generally done to make flexibility for teams to add players and be able to demote them.

So, I'd hazard a guess that Philadelphia and Vancouver both plan on making moves, which is why they wanted the option to be able to demote Foster and Barker tomorrow.

Montador and Olesz are both playing for Chicago's farm team and the Hawks are putting them on waivers to give them each a chance to catch on elsewhere. Olesz has actually been pretty good in the AHL (6 points in 5 games) since coming back from injury, but has an awful contract. I think Santorelli falls into this category, too.

Hall is being waived to go back down to the AHL.

MacIntyre is on waivers so that he can be eligible to play for Toronto in the NHL this season, should the need/desire arrive.

No one will bite for Olesz and Montador. Chicago will have to buy out their contracts this summer.

Foster and Santorelli's cap hit are too high. I think teams would like cheaper players to fill holes

They only player I could see being claimed is Barker.

Insurance if Rynnas jumps to back to Europe like speculated and 1 of Reimer, Scrivens or Kipper go down.

I don't know why someone wouldn't claim Montador. He is a good defenseman who has had concussion problems. He has been good and healthy so far in the AHL since his return. If Montador stays healthy, the contract is fair. A free asset but yes he is signed for this year and next. However if he gets another concussion then he can be put on LTIR or he will retire and either way his contract won't count against the cap. If he doesn't get a concussion then you add a #4/5 defenseman for nothing but his 2.7 mil cap hit. If Douglas Murray and Robyn Regehr can get two 2nd round picks(overpayments) then I can definitely see someone claiming Montador for free. I get not taking the risk when Monty was waived before playing any games but now he has shown he is healthy for now. It would be a smart move for a contender who needs a good defenseman to stabilize the bottom pair or help the 2nd pairing. We'll see I guess.

When healthy he looked fine. Ice Hogs fans say he's looked good so far in Rockford.

Barker was a failed attempt. He is at best a #2/3 in the AHL. Slow, soft, doesn't win battles, and no offense. His positioning wasn't as atrocious, but his abilities are terrible.
I hope he leaves the Canucks system so they can never recall him again.
And best of luck to him, hopefully a team in need of a stop gap gives Barker a chance, I could see him playing in Europe in 3-4 years.

Ohhhh, hadn't heard that. Kinda makes some sense, with Owuya and Sparks.

However, he wouldn't have to leave until next season - so not quite sure how it's insurance (with regards to Rynnas' departure) for the playoff push. Hmmmm
