Gardiner and 2013 1st for Flyers 2013 1st+?

This is assuming Flyers first is a top 5 pick. Just an idea. I'd definitely be willing to add a bit, just wondering what could make this fair value.

Gardiner isn't moving unless a similar-aged forward with high potential is coming back.

Why would the Flyers want to do this?

No, the talent at that spot have greater value than Gardiner. Mackinnon, Drouin, Barkov, even Nurse some may argue. Gardiner has concussion issues as well, Philly never does well with them.

Hence the Flyers 1st. Unless you mean early 20s.

Couts + 2nd + 4th
for
Gards + 1st

Is the likely value; however, I would rather keep Jake and see what happens.

D is looking pretty bad for the future. I'd rather have two potential #2 defenseman than another forward, seeing as we already have plenty of them.

He's had one relatively minor concussion.

If that is the criteria, then nearly every single NHL player has "concussion issues."

I think we can agree that a Gardiner/Couturier swap can be worked out between the two clubs

This could actually be a good deal for both sides. However, I don't know much about gardiners injury history; the concussion factor mentioned earlier scares me a bit. Was it just a minor one? If that's the case then it probably isn't a significant issue.

Only if Couturier is coming back in some sort of deal.

Guy has one concussion and he's got the label. Not that I'm picking on one guy, this seems to be something widespread among other fanbases which is obviously something used as an excuse to stay away. Am I right?

Everyone gets a concussion from the hit he took. There's no history there.

Concussion issues?

And wasn't Couts sidelined a bit for the same reason? (maybe not as long)

Including a bunch of current Flyers, but we don't want to trade for any new ones.

If Philly and the Leafs made this deal, would a deal near Draft Day work with the Kings?

Bernier + A.Martinez

for

Read + 1st (TOR)

Leafs get a guy in Couts whose a long term piece, plus some picks.

LA get Read top help solidify their top 6 plus back into the first round this year.

Philly gets Gardiner + Martinez who help shore up their back end, plus Bernier whose looking like a guy ready for a #1 spot

Why would Toronto do the op original deal? Gardner has already proved he can play in the NHL at a good level. We do not know where Philly picks, or if that prospect will ever play in the NHL. As for Couts, he is WAY overrated on the boards.

I think this deal could probably benefit both teams then.

Leafs get a potential #1 2-way c with playmaking ability, and the flyers get a potential top pairing defenseman as well as another 1st to add to our "we're not rebuilding" rebuilding core. Laughton can replace Couturier as the 3rd line C next year, and Reilly can take Gardiners place on the leafs backend.

It wasn't a high grade concussion, but it comes with risk like any other injury. Next season I'm sure he'll be back to his 20 minute, smooth skating, crisp outlet passing, deceptive shooting ways.

I say next season only because he seems to have been put into Carlyle's doghouse for his questionable(?) decision making thus far.

I think they'd rather use the 2nd first (tor) to pick a winger. A guy like anthony mantha perhaps if he falls to us there.

I'm still not sold on Bernier, and we have a young goaltender in Stolarz who really looks like he can develop I to something special.

Yes, Couts sat for a few games last season with a minor concussion after taking a slap shot off the back of his helmet, which is why I asked about the severity of gardiners concussion. With Couts it is a non-factor, which evidently is the same case with Gardiner.
