You are getting a character player who is committed. He doesn't *****. We just didn't have any more room on our D so we needed to move someone. A 5th is good value so I'm not worried on either side. He'll get more minutes and is not prone to stupid mistakes. He grew up on our D so he's pretty responsible and shouldn't disappoint. Glad he is gonna get some playing time now as he rotated well. Bottom pair D man, but has lots of room to grow. You guys will enjoy the pick up. Good Luck in the playoffs.
I don't understand this move, he's left shot and doesn't play physical. Basically bench warmer for Kings last few seasons. Probably just a sign that he's going to replace our current #7s - Kaberle/Weber and they will be moved soon.
Calling him a benchwarmer is a bit of an overstatment. Our D was top notch last few seasons and there just wasn't room. Our offense sucked and couldn't score on a drunk chick on prom night after her boyfriend dropped her , but our D was something to be proud of. He fits a good defensive system. He'll suprise you guys. He's not flashy like a Drew Doughty or Nieds or a big PMD. He's a defensive player and is good on the PK.
Just to clarify, the only reason he wasn't playing for us is we liked to use 1 puck mover and 1 shutdown guy per pairing. Willie Mitchell took the leap from great defender to elite (I know this is saying a lot but other Kings fans will back me up here) when he came to town. Scuderi was a solid vet who won a cup and played crucial PK time for us. And Greene was a heart and soul guy who was our only really, REALLY physical dman who also blocked shots and PKed for us. Davis just simply wasn't better than any of them and there's no shame in that as all 3 are very good defenseman. It's not like he was in the press box because he was just awful - just a numbers game.
