we might as well resign him. getting a rental is pointless unless you're a cup contender

Hey I can be an insider too!

Steven Mastrosimone @BlueshirtCentrl
according to TSN, #NYR have a deal in place for Clowe-a 2nd, 3rd, and cond. 2nd based on re-signing. Kinda steep, but Clowe is what NYR need

Look at this amazing info! I have so many contacts!

Libel. I know Steve Mastrosimone. He would never tweet this.

So what you are really saying is that he is trending downward. He's on the wrong side of 30 and plays a physical game, so may be breaking down. Have I got it about right?

Waiting for confirmation on cost, but I'm not in favor of this at the moment.

Lindberg, Fasth, and McIlrath alone falsify your claim. Not to mention Skjei and Nieves, among others.

Stop being a drama queen. Just because the farm system isn't as loaded as it has been doesn't mean it's bare.

McKenzie needs to clarify his tweet - it can be read three ways.

A 3rd that becomes a 2nd if he re-signs.
A 2nd and a 3rd that becomes a 2nd if he re-signs.
A 2nd and a 3rd - PLUS another 2nd if he re-signs.

I'd be thrilled with the first. I'd be okay with the 2nd. I'd be puking if it was the last.

Talk about throwing in the towel.

This is the type of move that can help solidify the depth this team has been missing.

The Rangers have 4 3rd rounders. Maybe they can swap 2 out of them for a 2nd. Trade one to SJ. Trade 2 for a 2nd. Have a 2nd and 3rd.

Hearing that conversation between #SJSharks GM Wilson and Clowe hasn't taken place yet, but, yes, deal is otherwise in place.

I think Slats and Torts will love the guy, and he will be re-signed.

We need a guy like Clowe, period. The fact that we traded some picks for him all but means he'll be re-signed, IMO.

zero goals. he will fit right in.

the rental stuff seems relevant. price gets more expensive if he does resign.

this move seems to be something of a head scratcher. a 2nd a 3rd and a conditional 2nd seems like alot to me for a guy like this. sure hes a better brandon dubinski but then again, i wasnt a fan of dubi to start with.

and as for the picks, theres certainly value, or more than value, to be had with 2nd rounders and even a 3rd. if you know how to draft that is....

not sure im on board with this one.

I doubt we re-sign him. With rumored demands, NYR's cap situation and the added dissuasion of a lost 2nd rounder, this screams rental.

Antropov was a 2nd plus conditional 2nd. NYR didn't re-sign him after he played well for us.

What exactly do you think you're going to get in the second round that isn't an unknown or a mid-level prospect?

The good news is no prospect went the other way. I am pretty happy about that.
The bad news is in a deep draft where Defensive depth must be addressed we have no 1st or 2nd. Not too happy about that.

Why do I get a feeling that one or both of Gaborik/Richards will be gone this summer?

Oh please. We haven't put together 3 consistently good games this entire year.

If we resign clowe I will like this deal. He's a good player. But a guy with 0 goals as a rental does not take us from astonishing mediocrity to a contender.
