You don't know how relieved I am that we didn't trade for Gaborik. Not that he is a bad player, but his contract and health would be a huge detriment to the team both in the short term and long term.

Why is everyone freaking out at the return? The other trades that have happened so far are similar value. Calgary shipped out two players better than Clowe and got back a low 1st and b-level prospects at best.

2nds are probably similar value to any of those prospects.

Prices are super-low on deadline deals right now. Outside of the Kings giving up 2 seconds for Robyn freaking Regehr, this is probably on par with the other trades so far in terms of return vs asset value.

I doubt it. Guys like Eklund and Garrioch pull things out of their ass....

Looking at what Roy and Jagr went for, this deal makes sense considering the Sharks got no prospects back. Very in line with the Iginla trade. Also, the Sharks have no room for B/C level prospects.

I'm guessing it happened something like... DW asked for the moon (1st, Couturier, etc.), clubs weren't super into it but would consider if Clowe resigned. Clowe said his insane, completely unreasonable price, everyone backed away -- DW was left with draft picks-laden trades or losing Clowe this summer because there's no way he's resigning him for that price.

All in all, I think it's not a terrible deal. Especially if he can swing a young player with the picks.

I really think DW learned his lesson from the Heatley trade, and this Gaborik situation is almost identical (minus the part where he's fast).

Good for Clowe. He's going to have fun battling the likes of .... Douglas Murray

Good deal for DW too. How many 2nds do we have now? like 7-8 in the next 3 years?

Everyone and their grandma has been saying that DW had been asking for a 1st round pick back. Why is it so hard to believe that DW asked for Couturier? No harm in asking, of course.

I'm hoping Philadelphia pulls a Pittsburgh and swoops in and steals him at the last moment. For Couturier.

Please?

I'm happy with 2 2nds and a 3rd. Decent enough. It was just fun getting our hopes up for something ridiculously massive in return.

Rumor I am hearing now is:

2nd, 2nd, conditional 2nd that becomes a first if Clowe re-signs.

Yeah Gaborik is Heatley part 2 waiting to happen. Different players yes but foresee similar results. Relieved he isn't heading here.

Pending paper work and trade call, Clowe is a Ranger. NYR may not be done as the possibility of adding a D-man exists. #tradecentre

@TSNBobMcKenzie: As per @Real_ESPNLeBrun, it's SJ's 2nd, FLA's 3rd and conditional 2nd (on re-signing or winning two playoff series). If not, it becomes 5th.

If so, that's good, but certainly not great. Do they have 2 2nds this year?

Maybe this will cheer up all of those upset over the Clowe return (what's speculated).
