Pretty much what I had expected after all the other trades that happened.

Clowe is no longer a 2nd line player. He takes stupid penalties and was going to walk in the summer for nothing. He hasn't even played a huge role during our current win streak or the one that we started the season with.

We also don't have to face him in the upcoming playoffs (if he had been traded to VAN). DW did the best he could in this situation.

Eh, close enough that I can spin it as a massive win for my favorite team

That's the point...apparently the trade papers aren't even signed yet and the "framework" of an extension is already in place...how is that considered a rental still? I guess he could suddenly change his mind in the next couple days and not extend..

Someone to replace Boyle? That's where the talent is in terms of 2013 RFAs

Not sad about the trade, we've got picks and cap space now to maneuver with or to re-load our depleted prospect pool

It's not terrible but I was hoping for more. If the Habs really did offer Leblanc + 2nd last week, I'd have preferred that deal. Maybe Clowe wouldn't waive for Montreal though. Who knows?

The only thing that bothers me is the fact that Brenden ****ing Morrow returned a blue chip prospect in Joe Morrow.

Irrelevant. The Sharks are trading for the picks, not the player that they will draft with those picks. Regardless of whether they draft the next Wayne Gretzky...I'd still say DW didn't get great value for Clowe. He didn't trade Clowe for the next Wayne Gretzky, he traded Clowe for a second round pick.

If the trade is really 2nd + 2nd + 3rd, man, Clowe is only a 3rd worth more than Murray?

Enough with the movie banter, please. There's an OT thread for that.

Guys, a sign and trade does not up a player's value if he has a full NTC.

If he wants to go there, he's going there. DW's hands are tied regardless of whether he signs an extension or not.

Don't use Murray as a barometer. He was drastically overpaid and everyone knows it.

Use Jagr, Roy, and even Iginla as a comparable. Clowe got good value back.

It is a rare case but Vlasic was a 2nd round pick that made the big club the season he was drafted.

Sorry, the stress of the last 31 hours must have gotten to me....

In my opinion two 2nd rounders + 2.5 3rd rounders = a 1st rounder.

better?

Clowe seemed open to a few teams, not like he was dead set on NY as his only choice

Shero had buyer's guilt about ripping off Dallas with Neal/Gogo.

If that deal had been offered, Clowe would be a Hab. Honestly, do people really think DW turned down that or any other rumored deal for two picks? No. It was never offered.

No, He just traded Clowe for picks. He basically just told the team "I don't have any faith in you".
