I think they both have to win two rounds. Or they could both re-sign with their respective team.

Clowe - NYR 2013 2nd Florida 3rd 2013 NYR 2nd 2014 or 5th 2014.
Murray - Pitt 2nd 2013 and?
Handzus - SJ 4th round pick back from Chicago.

Bout right?

I don't get all the complaining. Clowe was an expiring UFA making 3.7M who hadn't scored and mostly has made headlines for a lack of discipline. A huge majority of people didn't like him this year, hell a large group of people didn't like him the year before.

You get two, likely three good draft picks for him. You can now do three things:

1) Use these as currency in the next 24 hours to get someone who's not over the hill.
2) Combine these extra picks to make a run at some of the best talent in the draft.
3) Use the six picks we got from Murray, Handguns, and Clowe to build a farm system that presently doesn't really exist.

People complain every time there's an offensive dry spell or an injury that we don't have people in the waiting in Worcester. The only way to change that is to get picks and draft with purpose.

So at this point we've traded three expiring UFAs, none of which we would have resigned (with a combined one goal and 16 points), for a 2nd, 2nd/3rd, 4th, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd/5th.

How is that not a good return?

I think they'd have to sign him to an NHL ELC first (I think he's on an AHL ATO at the moment), but they certainly "can."

DW did well given the circumstances. And we're still in the Playoffs!!!
Screw playoffs man, trade deadline transactions is where the magic happens.

I hear ya, I've been advocating for years that Clowe needs to be on the 3rd line. But with this team, that means having 3 slow (or at least less than fast) lines. And, he's a little too pricey for 3rd liner.

Still think it's fair value though, imagine if the tables were reversed and the Sharks gave up the same for just 12 games. The rumors inflated his perceived value. Clowe's not worth more than Iginla, Jagr, etc
Plus the mid 2nd from NY

We have so many picks in this draft now. Vaasa must be overjoyed.

Sounds right. That's a pretty good haul for three players that we weren't going to re-sign.

I think both teams will try to extend them both.

Sather was no where near taking DW on this trade. If it was for Brian Boyle and a 7th that would've been a fleecing. For a 30 year old, pending FA that has yet to score a goal this season, he did very well.

Forget the name "Ryane Clowe", and be objective about this deal. We just traded an upcoming UFA with zero goals...for NYR's 2nd, FLA's 3rd, and a conditional 2nd (Worst case NYR's 5th).

How can you not be thrilled about that deal?

I'll only really consider it a bad trade if no other trades are made to bolster the top 6 by tomorrow.

The team is in the playoffs, playing well, and anything can happen come playoffs (See Kings falling ass backward into 8th seed and going on to the cup) so I won't be happy if we just depleted our already needing top 9 for futures we probably won't see for a few years down the road.
