Yes. Clowe is a very unique player, so Shark fans understand why there was so much interest despite his rough start to the season. He's just now gotten over some injuries and finally looks healthy again. It might seem like a lot if you're just looking at this season, but trust me you guys will love Clowe. I wish him the best of luck in NY.

It's a hell of a lot better than moving our 2014 1st for him.

Well--he's here. The Rangers are obviously thinking they're not going to cash this season in--they're making some attempt to correct some of their problems. If nothing else it adds better depth to the forwards. We needed toughness--we need more lines able to contribute something. I don't know if it's going to pay off or not but I don't like seeing this team not competing physically enough--the draft is a ways off at this point--worry about that when the time comes. If Gaborik gets moved in the off season we'll probably recoup some of the lost picks.

Thanks for the input. Is there any way you can address his scoring a bit? What are your thoughts? I assume he's not declining yet, so it's more of a snakebitten thing?

And THIS is what I don't understand the most! We literally still do have that 1st round pick yet people are still acting as if we suddenly can't grab any good young talent in the draft in the next 80 years.

Clowe is a much better player than Prust.

Looks to me like mainly the problem with his scoring this year is he is running really bad in terms of shooting percentage which I assume then has given the coaches reason to give him less PP time (if he got some before) and less ice time with better guys. He has 65 SOG so he has been putting the puck on net. He's been pretty much around an 11% shooter that last 4 years and for his whole career so if you ust normalize his shooting % to that we could expect him to have had around 6-7 goals so far this year

Oh I agree. I think if the Rangers were having a good year and Gaborik was having a good year, they would try to make it work and get another run in next season, but with the way things stand now I can see them thinking about moving him to recoup some draft picks or get a good young player + cap space

I kind of want to see:

Clowe - Stepan - Nash
Zucc - Richards - Gabby
Hags - Boyle - Callahan
Plug - Plug - Plug
Let's break up our one good scoring line & drop Cally to the 3rd.

I'm sure GM's will be lining up to trade their first round pick for a player coming off an expensive massive underachieving season.

I'm not saying it's not gonna happen, it just seems a bit off to me. If we get a high pick it's only because we'll be taking on salary too.

Or, let's have three lines that can actually do something.

Cally-Hags is great. Gabby has been playing very well recently and i'm a big MZA fan and think he'll help. Clowe-Stepan-Nash is a great line.

Adding Clowe gives us significantly better depth.

Uh, instead of shaking your head so arrogantly, what would you do? Just throw Clowe down on the 3rd line? The 2nd line looked fantastic last night, so I would keep that together since Zucc seems to be the only player that could get Richards and Gabby skating a bit. That leaves the 1st or 3rd lines.

Best part of this trade at the moment is going over and reading the sharks trade thread. They were sure on the first few pages they were getting Kreider or Miller, since we had no first to give.

Well, if he continues his slump he'll fit right in

Perhaps a change of scenery is what he needed. Don't think for a second that Glen is done in the market.

Gotta shed some cash, gotta find a way to add a draft pick or two here.

It's why I think speculating lines right now is a bit of a premature practice. Who knows if a guy like Gabby or Boyle or Pyatt are here tomorrow. Salary has to be shed, a lot of Twitter people leaning towards the Rangers handing Clowe an extension.

Zucc-Richards-Gabby
Clowe-Boyle-Hags
Pyatt-Miller-Asham

Yeah. It's a good problem to have. And the main reason for moving Cally down is to obviously spread the wealth a bit like you say. We have, right now, two completely useless lines. Moving Cally down with Hags and Boyle/Miller creates a nice opportunity for all of them.

Cally was on the "3rd line" last night. Zucc-Richie-Gaborik were together until all the penalties started.

I do agree that we should not be taking hagelin off that line. Put Clowe with Boyle. Boyle played his best hockey when he was with Prust. Add Clowe to Boyle.

one can spin this any way ones wants...

we wouldnt get a player like this if he was not having an off year can be spun various ways....

i just think a guy whos struggling and having a crap year coming to a team thats struggling and having a crap year. ..isnt quite the perfect recipe for success.

I think they will be, he's only 1 year removed from a 41 goal season and GMs can rationalize many reasons why he's struggling this year, including "he can't play under Tortorella's system".

I'm not really sure how I feel about this deal. I think being scared about trading draft picks is dumb in general, but I don't know if it's worth it in this case. Guess it depends on how Clowe plays and how the Rangers do

I do like that Clowe is a low down, disgusting, asshat on the ice. This team needs more of that.

I think it is the right way to do it. Just because he has struggled doesn't mean he will continue to struggle. Even with his struggles he still has better production than basically everyone in our bottom 6. If you want to get a guy of this quality that isn't struggling then you're going to pay a very premium cost - one that we really can't even pay this year given we don't have a first round pick to trade.

Hockey News Bio On Clowe

Quote:
SCOUTING REPORT
Assets: Plays a solid up-and-down game, and is a throwback winger who loves to check and do the dirty work. Strong on the puck, he's versatile enough to line up on either wing. Is a good scorer in close and an excellent scrapper, too.

Flaws: Can be a bit too streaky in the goal-scoring department. As he has become a bigger scoring threat, he has become a little less physical, too. Also, he is not an elegant skater; he's somewhat of a plodder, in fact.

Career Potential: Solid power forward.

Newfie bias aside, I love getting Clowe. Very excited for him to play with the Rangers.
