I believe Rosehill was drafted as a d man. I guess that solves the lack of a number one guy!

I thought when he played for Toronto he was a defenseman but I'm not sure.

hopefully they just let this guy walk to free agency. I wouldn't tie up a contract beyond this year with this clown.

I hope that is the plan. free up a contract for next year with Harry Z gone and a warm body to see out the season.

It's not that we actually gonna miss Harry Z. that much on the NHL roster but the Phantoms could definitely use him next year with McGinn likely up with the big club for the whole season and Noebels/Flannagen/Wellwood being potential callups.

It just makes no sense to trade a still young energy player for an unsigned goon with 15 games left on the season. If it's just to do them a favour they could have picked him up for future considerations.

Just watched fight videos of this guy for about 10 minutes, and it seems that he swings and misses with almost every punch - unless he's trading blows, where he was pretty durable, kind of like a punching bag that can knock you out.

Also he seemed better than Sestito and Shelley at hockey, but how hard is that really

This pissed me off to no end. Have some balls, stand up for your teammate.

What is this veteran rule? I never heard of it before.

The trade was done because of the veteran rule. The Ads can only dress so many veterans per game and we were sitting healthy players out to comply with the rule. Rosehill was a vet, Zolnierczyk is not.

A reference to this:

What is the AHL's development rule?

In the AHL, player development is a top priority. The American Hockey League and the Professional Hockey Players' Association have the following development rule in place for the 2012-13 season:

Of the 18 skaters (not counting two goaltenders) that teams may dress for a regular-season game, at least 13 must be qualified as "development players." Of those 13, 12 must have played in 260 or fewer professional games (including AHL, NHL, IHL and European elite leagues), and one must have played in 320 or fewer professional games. All calculations for development status are based on regular-season totals as of the start of the season.

On the one hand, this seems like a waste.

On the other hand, Homer is apparently required to do something stupid each deadline. Please let this be all he has.

Is this thread making a mountain out of a Rosehill? You decide.

Of the two marginal players, Z was the better. No point in this deal.

Are the odds at all high that Rosehill suits up on D?

Hopefully the odds of Rosehill suiting up at all is non-existent

Are you kidding? There was nothing dirty about that hit. What are we retaliating against? How dare they play hockey!

The way you retaliate is win the game.

There was nothing dirty about the hit on Giroux. You still want to send a message that there will be consequences if you touch our star player though. You can argue about how dumb it is but it's been like that for many years in hockey.

I agree. The idea behind the enforcer is that it is a nuclear deterrent. It maybe dumb/old/outmoded but Flyers added muscle they perhaps felt was lacking at the moment-- in a very minor trade.

Yeah I actually think the whole Giroux hit thing played a role in this. Like others said, it was a clean hit, but you gotta stand up for your star player. You think the Pens would have sat by while Crosby was writhing around on the ice after being hit? Probably not. Clean or not, you gotta go after someone if your star player/captain gets laid out.

Good trade. Harry Z is useless. Rosehill is a pretty decent fighter and this is the Philadelphia Flyers after all. And our team has been girlie all season.
