#Caps sign Minnesota free agent defenseman Nate Schmidt to a two-year, entry-level deal. He’ll take part in practice Weds at KCI.

Do these kids not look at the Flyers blueline?

top-4 minutes and PP time to anyone who can stake upright and shoot.

Quick scouting report from having watch about every college game Schmidt has played.

Great offensive game, canon of a shot. Long term project as he has a ways to go in the defensive part of the game.

Funny thing....as I'm typing this, I felt like I was giving the scouting report on Mike Green.

That's a good landing spot for him.

Sounds like the kid the Stars got from Vancouver as well.

Also sounds like ... Cam Barker

Damn, I wanted him on the Rangers, badly. Loved watching him in the maroon and gold. For Caps fans who have never heard of him, he's like Justin Schultz if Schultz could play defense. You can trust him. It needs work, but he's pretty physical which is rare for PMDs.

The caps seem stocked with young defense so the signing is odd. Unless he and the team feel like he can crack the lineup that is.

With this and Jack Hillen re-signing for two years, you can pretty much count Jeff Schultz being the odd man out. Look for him to go tomorrow for a late pick. Somewhere from the 4th-7th round
