Didn't know he was a 5th rounder, but I remember people touting his skills and potential.

This is actually a decent deal. Gaunce has a higher ceiling than Vinny. It's kinda disappointing because we all had pretty high hopes when he broke into the league at 20, but ignoring that this is a pretty passable hockey trade.

I liked what I saw from him from the most part. Good luck to him. Tell me about this Guance guy?

Vincour was given a couple of short stints with top line guys, but he simply did not have he hands to deserve better ice time. Guys need some modicum of skill to get better minutes than he was seeing.

They see Smith as a guy with a lot more potential.

He was touted as a late 1st/2nd rounder. An injury set him back.

And the people who think that Gaunce will step up to a NHL level right now are seriously mistaken. He can barely play in the AHL right now.
Seems weird to see him in possible lineups in this thread.
I don't think he's anywhere close to ready ATM.

Question for Stars fans, Is Vincour much of a faceoff guy or has he been a winger for a while?

I liked Vincour when he played with the Texas Stars, he had a lot of drive down there. His AHL skills haven't translated to the NHL and they may never. I wouldn't have been sad if we kept him, he's entertaining down here in Cedar Park.

This. Vincour is 3 months younger than Glennie and younger than most of the prospects we acquired today. He still had loads of potential, but has been groomed to be a bottom 6 player from the get go. He wasn't given big minutes in the minors to work on his scoring, he was asked to play a checking line role. Which is fine, it's what he's suited for.

Vincour always has had decent possession skills and defensive play. This season he struggled and the organization seemingly has given up on him. That's really silly for a guy who shows promise as an average 3rd liner. Especially for an organization that just acquired someone in the same mold who is 2 years away from being what Vincour is much closer to.

Unless they really love Gauce, it just screams bad asset management. Why give up on a kid who has decent potential as a role player, and has played more NHL games than the rest of our 09 draft combined?

I'd say the biggest knock on Vinny at the NHL level is he could never finish.

Which was ironically his biggest asset in junior.

NHL ditches are littered with guys who scored a lot in juniors.

And its not like he was a big scorer in juniors. Never topped 30 goals or 50 points in 3 WHL seasons.

Cin are you ok? You seem like you have lost your marbles a bit. Great third liner? Proven NHL scorer? You meant AHL right? Which Thomas Vincour were you watching? Cause at the NHL level he is a 4th liner that can't finish and doesn't have the interesting "intangibles" that might distinguish him there.

Man, this is proof that Nieuwy will get ripped no matter what he does.
It's his third season and he's 22. Let me send those numbers to NASA to confirm or reject the hypothesis that he was in the NHL too early.

Never said he was a proven scorer. He can finish when presented an opportunity. He's had some delicious goals.

Also not okay seeing Joe completely bend over to the rest of the league.
