I agree. I love Boyle, and I think I have the most emotional attachment of any Shark to him, but as much as he wants to stay he deserves another real shot and he's not going to get it here.

I'm for Chimera. We could use his skill set.

I'd love to get Hunter Shinkaruk. He'll probably go somewhere between 10-20.

I wouldn't mind Chimera. He wouldn't be a rental, either.

Yeah, he'd easily be a top-10 pick in any other year and might even be one this year, but he might start to fall a little for no reason and I'd love to see DW trade up for him.

Resist the urge to trade high picks for old, stopgap players. The Sharks have a fantastic opportunity to place the franchise in a good position long term, by either trading up in the draft to acquire an impact player or keeping the picks and draft for quality depth.

Trade a 2nd for Handzus.
Trade a 2nd for Clowe.
Trade a 2nd for Murray.

Typical Doug Wilson trade deadline moves. We need gritty veterans.

I've had my eye on him for a few seasons. DW really should be looking into acquiring him if he hasn't already. He wouldn't be too hard to pry away from Calgary.

I agree. Plus who knows, Tarasov and/or Nieto might quickly become the new 13th forward. Maybe pull a Kreider in the playoffs.

This is really an ideal situation. The Sharks have finally turned it around on the ice plus they have a boatload of quality draft picks.

I know this is a pipe dream, but the Blues might not have enough real money to re-sign all of Shattenkirk, Pietrangelo, Berglund and Stewart even though they have the cap space. I want Perron. It'll be very, very expensive, though.
I'd love Perron but I think it'd be too expensive despite his unimpressive year. I'm aware of Stafford's contract, just think he'd be a good fit. How much extra do you think it would take to get them to retain some salary? Sabres seem like they are going to rebuild.

If DW really wanted to troll Rutherford:

Offersheet Pietrangelo at $8M/7 years. Rutherford will have to match because hello, it's Pietrangelo.
Offersheet Shattenkirk at $7M/7 years. Rutherford will have to match because Shatty's like 50% of their offense.
Offersheet Berglund at $5M/7 years. Rutherford will have to match because they have no center depth.

Then, swoop in and trade Patrick White for Perron,

They'd probably want a good draft pick and a decent prospect to eat half the salary.

Are they looking to dump Stafford?

One of the 2nd's we have + Brodie Reid type for Stafford and they eat half the salary/cap hit? I might do that, don't know if Sabres would. They'd probably want a better prospect. I'd give him Petrecki, but I don't even know if they want him either.

I don't like Stafford's contract, especially with the cap going down next season. Plus, he isn't playing all that well, and he's been a healthy scratch a few times.

You really would be trolling Rutherford if you faxed him a signed offer sheet for a player on the Blues. I don't believe he could match even if he wanted to.

Probably because he is the GM of the Carolina Hurricanes

Outside of Hertl and Nieto, the Sharks have no forward that projects beyond the 3rd line level. They have plenty of defensemen to fill out the depth levels. They're committing to Burns as their #1 and Vlasic is a serviceable partner for him for as long as they want to do that. They don't need much focus on that level with a young roster of d-men and solid group of d-men prospects. And honestly, the need for much attention or resources on goalies is dwindling overall. You can go years and not draft any and it wouldn't matter because it's cheap to go out and find someone to fill the role and do well as long as it fits.

If they can pluck two quality winger prospects out of the draft that can/will project to be a top six player, they will succeed in a short term refresh or whatever they want to call it. If they land three, it would be ideal in terms of preparing for the future as Marleau and Havlat will be on their way out when this class is about ready to step in. Three would actually fill a void if we assume Nieto is filling the fourth winger spot in the top six. However, it's not all that likely to get that kind of pull in this draft with their picks as they are.

To get two, they likely will need a solid pick in the first round and hope that one of their pretty much four second round picks goes to historic formula of a 25% clip of success.

Of course, all this doesn't mean anything if they find a long term solution by trading Boyle or someone else for a young winger that has many years of top six play in front of him.
