I don't know anything about this player other than what I've read in this thread but it sounds like a good depth move. MB has done a good job so far (getting Halpern for free was great) and I trust his judgement at this point. 5th isn't too expensive anyway.

Great move. We may have to split up The M/E pairing at one point.
They are just too brutal to watch on occasion and we can't afford that in the PO's
Thinking we might have someone besides Josh who could play with PK ?
He did play with Doughty...
Josh with Markov.
Leaves Emelin and Bullion on the left and player to be named on the right.
Makes sense if we get another RHD.
Pray it's RD but still options out there.

Funny that was the first thing I thought of when I read about the trade.
From what I read, he's a true pro that will play his heart out every game. He is a bigger stay at home D that likes to focus on positioning and his angles. He was the 3rd most used Dman on the PK in LA.

Therrien was addressing the media after our win yesterday saying how management had identified a problem with the Faceoffs and the PK, which is the main reason they picked up Halpern. Gorges also touched on the PK. Now we add a bigger guy that can play there as well, could be good news to get Markov/Emelin out of there.

I also felt there was some similarity with Gorges. If he can turn up to be close to Gorges, in a bigger body, it'll be an amazing move.

According to Kings fans he can play on the right side... like Gorges

Probably Ethan Moreau involved, who is a western conference scout for us and was a teammate of Drewiske's last year.

If he can play right side then maybe we can move Emelin back to his natural left side.

I was like 75 % sure that Bergevin would get a depth defenseman and I agree that it was a need. However, I would have like a more imposing physical defenseman who can even fight, I thought about a guy like Carkner.

One thing I like about MB there is method to his madness.
This guy has been scouted...
MB saw value and pounced.
If he gets more ice time with Habs than Kings and plays well his value increase 10 fold.
Media will see to that. LOL.
Just look what we did for Komisarek...

This year I am much more confident with moves like this as we have Dudley doing the leg work. If Habs took this guy as depth D, I trust he'll be OK.

This is the guy they wanted all along
They were just waiting for the Kings to make the wrong move

Disappointing, really. At 6'2" 220 lbs, he has the size, but his 13 hits and 14 PIM in 20 games is definitely not what I was hoping for.

Having said that, I'll definitely give Bergevin the benefit of the doubt.

Well I know we want Markov to play less but I still think we want him to play more than Drewiske. I think his Whisky,s place will be on the right of Bouillon.

Islanders are in a playoff hunt and if I go by what Isles fans have been saying, they want and need more toughness also so Carkner wouldn't have come cheap.

Bergevin AND scouts. I think Dudley had a big hand in this and thus, I like. We've made some seriously good moves this year (management of rookies, Halpern, Ryder, Drewiskie to fill void even if he's not doughty).

Some of the best moves, as we know, are not making any at all. When you have a solid team and a solid cupboard, just roll with it.

Especially with the scouting job they've done on both Ryder and Halpern. Both those moves have proven to be quite fruitful thus far.
Ryder's contribution far outweighs Cole's, and Halpern was a great free pick up. Exactly what we needed on our 4th line as a center.

So if they grab Drew in LA, they certainly have earned my trust in their scouting jobs. McGuire is saying this is a great deal (not that his opinion is really credible, but it's certainly better than hearing something negative), reading the LA boards, none have anything bad to say about this guy. He wasn't amazing, but he was serviceable and just got pushed away due to their depth.

I'm not expecting Drew to become a Niinima type deal. I'm hoping Drew turns out to be similar to Gorges.

He's really smart defensively, and solidifies our top D squad for cheap, considering the current market. I'd say that's the opposite of disappointing.

He can hold his own physically too, but he's not exactly a ground shaker.

I think someone's gonna have to change their user name to "Drewhisky Seven".

I'm not so sure we completely understand what is going on here.
We are definitely looking to become a puck possession team.
Big bruisers are great but we are building on skill set.
I much prefer a D who can rub an opponent off the puck and move it up ice quickly.
You don't find that skill set in D who are trying to drive defenders through the boards all the time.
I like the style this team is taking on.
There are plenty of ways to be tough...:

That was an example there is others guys like that in the league, like Kevin Westgarth, Jay Harrison, Shane O'Brien, Ryan O'Byrne, Tyson Strachan, Kent Huskins etc. they maybe aren't all as tough, but they bring hitting, crease clearing and some could have gone for cheap.

Who cares if he hits? He doesn't get pushed around very easily and that's what matters.

I've got a what if scenario. If they judge that the guy is comparable to Gorges and that the Gorges contract is too long for too much money.

And that Gorges has a good value around the league. Maybe they plan to trade Gorges in the summer ?
