I would not throw Nieto on the top line to begin with, but more like

Havlat-Thornton-Burns
Marleau-Couture-Wingels
Nieto-Pavs-Sheppard
Galiardi-Gomez-Desjardins

Now all of a sudden, the Sharks have three legit scoring lines and Nieto-Pavs-Sheppard could be freaking amazing...

Nieto looked pretty good out there tonight. His play without the puck was, and I wouldn't use this word unless I really meant it, spectacular. His hockey IQ really showed its head tonight on multiple occasions.

He was not as fast as I was expecting, but I'd still call his speed "above average".

I know it's just one night, but I saw no glaring deficiencies in his game...

I know it's only one game but I remember when Couture played for Worcester, he was dominating. Did Nieto dominate, or did he simply look comfortable on the team -- which, don't get me wrong, is also great.

He's not in Couture's league. People seriously need to temper their expectations.

How did he look defensively? Did they use him on the PK, probably not first game? I think some of his speed was exaggerated because he was playing against less talented kids in the NCAA, that and maybe just adjusting to the pro game, but still very fast.

This. He's not elite but he's very good, just not quite Couture good. Think Pavs good if he continues to develop.

I was referring to his absence from the proposed lineup. But yeah Galiardi's been great lately playing how I hoped he would ever since we acquired him.

He did PK.

I think you may be underrating Pavs, now. Pavs is a good 1st line player.

No, I agree. But I had to cover the bases just in case it was a purposeful absence.

That's exactly what I asked -- if he was dominating at Couture's level, rather than assuming as much. I haven't seen him, so, just curious what his potential ceiling was and how he looks playing pro.

Anyway, very excited to see him develop! It's exciting to finally have a prospect who can, A. skate and B. dangle.

I still think that's aiming high as Pavelski is a 1st liner, or a high end 2nd liner, with a Selke caliber defensive game.

As of now, I still believe his projection is a good 2nd line winger who could bring defensive value as well.

Swap out Shep with Galiardi and that's an amazing top 3 lines if you ask me.

Glad to hear they are using his defensive talents! I wasn't trying on undervalue Pavs, only stating that I see Nieto as being not quite at Couture's skill level but still someone who would excel in the top 6.

In his best year, how many goals/points do you think he could get? Around 20/60?

I'm glad we're already prepping the crown and scepter for our lord and savior King Nieto. I'm very excited about this kid, but cereally, let's be reality: He's never going to lead the league in scoring and there's a remote chance he might suck at the NHL level. Let's take it slow here.

I'd like to see how he does for the rest of this season in Worcester before guessing what his NHL production could be...but if (if!) he can develop into a 25/25 player who can play in all situations that's great value for the #47 pick.
