Rangers forced to pay Lindros

Quote:
An arbitrator has ordered the New York Rangers to pay Eric Lindros $1.2 million US, Sportsnet has learned, settling a dispute surrounding Lindros' games-played bonus from his final year in New York.

The Rangers felt they did not have to pay Lindros the money because the burly centre suffered a concussion. However, the Big E said he had fully recovered from the concussion and was out due to a shoulder injury

This situation concerned a clause in the Lindros contract. The Rangers could not get insurance on Lindros when they traded for him in 2001.So both sides decided Lindros would get a base salary and games played bonuses(up to $6 million)by being available for at least 75 games. He got $80,000 per game.As long as Lindros didn't suffer a concussion and miss more than 30 games,he would get the games played bonuses. He suffered the concussion on the Jason Doig hit and never played another game that season-2003-04.Lindros later suffered a shoulder injury shooting pucks in practice while he was attempting to return to play. The issue was which injury ended his season. If it was the concussion, the Rangers owed Lindros nothing and if it was the shoulder, they owed him the bonus money. The Rangers were planning to trade in the March 2004 purge before Lindros hurt the shoulder. He was close to returning to action

Anyone know if that counts against the cap?

Why would a dispute over money from the 2003-04 season count against the 2006-07 salary cap?

That's exactly why it pisses me off that he got the money. But it's best to simply remove the tumor than let it fester as a continuing dispute.

Well in fairness to Lindros, he is in the right in this situation.

Haha, just like the way he "left" Philadelphia still irritates some fans, lol.

But yeah, the money is rightfully his. Give it to him and move on.

Seriously, give him the money since he is entitled toward it. Its not like its going to send the Rangers bankrupt.

I thought he played with more heart then pretty much any ranger in his final season with us BTW and only had 1 bad season (his 2nd) with the team. Then again im a huge Big E fan so im biased.

I'm with most on here, give him the money, and lets just move on. It isnt a large sum in the grand scheme of things, so if he is in fact owed the money(which I think he is) then pay the man. Especially if it doenst count towards the cap, who cares.

He should have to pay the rangers and flyers for all the games he missed. Please he should just shut up and be grateful he collected a paycheck for all those games missed.

Maybe how you feel, sure... but contractually, he's in the right and that's all that matters.

A contracts a contract, and NY owes him, but Lindros should have spent more time playing hockey than acountant.

I never had a problem with Lindros when he was here, it was just too bad that he always had to play a restrained game due to the threat of a concussion. I think he had surgery on the shoulder so it wasn't just a ploy to get the 1.2 mill. Give him the money, end of story.
