I feel like there was a reason Connauton's name came up in roughly 80% of Canucks proposals here over the last six months. Questionable defensive game who hasn't exactly wowed offensively as a minor leaguer.

Wow...I'm...ecstatic? No, that's the wrong word. Disappointed. Yeah, I'm disappointed.

Roy has worn #9 his entire NHL career, but also wore 15 and 21 in the AHL.
LOL, he confirmed immediately that hes wearing 15. no pondering

He does have some upside if he ever puts it together. Dallas is rebuilding so it makes sense to take on those types of players and hope that at least a couple of them turn out to be NHLers.

Like I said, I'm disappointed but not upset. The Jagr trade is upsetting.

Ecstatic about Roy coming to Vancouver.

And we got him for cheap cheap.

Connauton hasn't put it all together, but he's still an okay prospect. His defensive game is kinda meh, he needs to simplify. If he can do that, he'll likely be an NHLer in some capacity. Granted, that's easier said than done. The guy is getting to the point where he needs to get his feet wet in the NHL, Dallas can offer that opportunity where as Vancouver cannot. The Canucks farm team is an offensively starved team, he may flourish if he is thrown into a more offensive system. The guy plays with an edge too, similar to Bieksa.

This is me being a bit optimistic, however. I'm not too worried to see him go. This is partially because we have a ton of depth on the left side and we have some young defensemen that are above him on the depth chart.

Connauton is a project prospect for sure. You just have to hope he puts it together. I don't see it happening though.

Solid deal. Needed a C very, very badly, got a C.

I have to admit I wanted to see what Connauton could do in a Canucks uniform (I mean, holy **** could he really be a worse option than Alberts or *shudder* Barker?) and it would be nice if the Canucks ever managed to grab a player who came up in their own backyard, but clearly he was expendable.

Well, maybe a change of scenery would suit K-Conn in Dallas. Could be a solid offensive dman if he ever manages to keep his head screwed on straight in his own zone. Hope he works out for you, Dallas.

I was and am a fan of K-Con, I think he has a ways to go before he's making a positive impact in the NHL but I definitely see it as a possibility.

He didn't really have a future in Vancouver with our top-4 locked up forever (Hamhuis, Bieksa, Elder, Garrison) and all our young D prospects were ahead of him on the depth chart as well (Tanev, Corrado, McNally). His game doesn't really translate to what the Canucks want in their bottom pair (defensively safe and risk averse - see Rome) and he had less than 0% chance of displacing any of our top-4 so he wasn't even going to get a shot in Vancouver. Hopefully he's able to round out his defensive game in the next few years and become a usable defenseman for the stars.

For Dallas fans-- We actually were somewhat excited about Connauton for a while back when he was playing with Tanev in the AHL and didn't look so incompetent defensively-- so it's not a lost cause.

You got him right around when all our fans lost hope in him and finally decided "Nah, it's never gonna happen", though, so I would definitely temper my expectations.

Connauton will never play in the NHL as a defender. Just doesn't have a clue in his own zone, is a poor man's Andy Delmore. Defensive reads are laughable.

Only hope is if he's converted to forward, which the Canuck organization should have done a couple years ago. As a defender, he has a great shot but is otherwise rubbish across the board.

There's a blast from the past. Guy could flat out put up numbers from back there. I do wonder if he could have done better had he come up in this era, and not the middle of dead puck.

I'm not sure how much this had to do with K-Conn though. Seems to be a consistent theme in Tanev's career: 'He was playing well with Tanev...'

we were and then we realized we had no scoring ability so we decided to bring in a player with skill.

Fair enough. Seems like a good trade since nothing of immediate value was given up.

He hasn't worn #9 his entire NHL career.. He was just wearing 11 in Dallas since #9 is off limits due to Modano (and will be eventually retired)

Absolutely. But it's possible that Dallas has a similar guy to pair him with and he improves enough for it to work at some point.

Roy could be going against some weaker competition if he is indeed going to be our 3C, so I can see him producing more. Can't wait to see how he plays.

vancouver had a very obvious need at center, you would have thought that nieuwendyk had the bargaining power to extract a bit more considering how few quality centers there are available at the moment

if roy keeps his current ufa demands then it'll be a rental, however if the canucks have some post-season success where roy makes a meaningful contribution then hopefully he'll be happy with a mirror of the ryan kesler $5 million/NTC contract
