Wellwood kinda sucked :/ He was on a line with Joseph Pavelski and still got owned by Maxim Lapierre. I hated Pavelski on the third line then, but Galiardi+Clowe/Sheppard>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>Wellwood+Mitchell

I think Petrecki is done in the sharks org. He and a pick minimum going elsewhere for someone to add to the big club for the playoffs and beyond.

The Sharks have zero depth right now. They're playing well right now and it would be kinda bad to tell the players to play their ***** off and win and then they do win and just throw the season away by not doing anything. Obviously he shouldn't throw a 2nd at a rental like he does every year but maybe throw a 4th for a 3rd/4th liner or something.

He was lousy against Vancouver, but the majority of the team sucked that series. Wellwood and Pavelski were great against LA and Detroit.
I don't think DW will get him either, but I'd rather have a player like him on the 3rd line with Pavelski and Galiardi, move Sheppard down to the 4th line, and have Burish as the 13th.

This was my logic as well. Burish as a 13th forward is still poor depth, but it sure beats having him penciled in the line-up.

Sharks need at least one tweener if they want to stay competitive.

I'm guessing MacArthur is too expensive.

What would we need to trade to get Shawn Matthias?

How about these Bottom 6 fwds?

Blake Comeau, Eric Nystrom, Steve Sullivan (doubt we'd want to re-sign him, though), Chuck Kobasew, Brandon Yip, Ryan Jones, or Chad Larose

Just say no to Wellwood... Did everyone forget how soft and slow that guy was? Nice hands and vision but that's pretty much it.

Soft? Yes. Slow? No.
He has really good hands and vision, and he's surprisingly effective in front of the net for a guy his size. We're not running a traditional 3rd or 4th line so he could work.

Out of those.

Nystrom and Yip would be good depth guys.

Edit; and checking capgeek their rentals.

Bottom half teams unload their older vets or their expiring contracts. DW said he doesn't want vets, but that doesn't mean he won't go after a young/prime-ish rental with plans to re-sign him which is exactly what I think he'll do. Wellwood would be a good example (although DW's pride might stop him from doing that trade).

-tweener who can play fill-in top 6
-Expiring contract
-low cap hit
-his team is trending down and may miss the playoffs
-good chance of re-signing
-team likely is unhappy with him due to underperformance
Then DW won't make a trade. He said no rentals.

It won't be a rental if they get re-signed, which is what DW will try to do.

Sheppard>Wellwood bro. Sheppard is better defensively and much, much less soft.

Yeah. All we really need is some bottom 6 depth, really for the 4th line.

Guess we could use that vet 7th dman.

Either of those should be low round picks and/or a mid-level prospect. Nothing terribly expensive.

Doubt they get any vets.

Well, assuming Burns stays as a forward, then their defense is awfully young for the playoffs.

We're talking cheap - 5th-7th round pick or just swap Petrecki for a vet dman. Scott Hannan?

They have to make a deal. I still think we're in need of two wingers that have speed and can score.

And for the love of God, get rid of Burish.

Definitely think we will see DW grab a forward, maybe even 2. As of right now we have zero depth for the post season. I don't expect us to lose any more players until the draft.

The one wild card I could see is Greiss. I haven't heard a single thing about him being traded, but DW is obviously wiling to ship out guys that won't be back. Why not Greiss? Any pick would be better than letting him walk.

Totally agree, but that doesn't mean Wellwood would be useless here.

Not sure why I'm advocating him anyway because there's almost no chance DW goes after him after letting him go not too long ago.

Hopefully a late pick (5-7th) + Petrecki will get us a depth player. I agree with the other posters that said Petrecki is likely done here. Not that he's bad or a guaranteed bust, but there are too many young defenseman here who have jumped him on the depth chart. DW will probably trade for someone no one expects or even knows about.

DW will stick to the plan and not do any trades... until 5 minutes before the deadline when he gives in and scratches the itch.

And Wellwood/Sheppard > Burish/Sheppard. I'm not even advocating getting Wellwood. I'm saying I'd like it if DW got a player like Wellwood (good 3rd liner or 2/3 tweener).
With said acquired player, Pavelski's line turns from a good 3rd line to a great 3rd line. Moving Sheppard down turns that 4th line into another 3rd line.

I'll even give the team more options for a lineup.

They could potentially run:
Wellwood - Pavelski - Sheppard (elite possession 3rd line)
Burish - Desjardins - Galiardi (a more orthodox agitator checking line)
Gomez

or run four scoring lines:
Wellwood - Pavelski - Galiardi
Sheppard - Gomez - Desjardins
Burish

The point I'm trying to make is the Sharks need that tweener. If Demers is healthy, that's all they will need.

What about Lauri Korpikoski? A lot of people were high on him last year. He's an rfa at the end of the season and only 26. With all of the uncertainty surrounding phoeonix's situation and the fact that they don't look like they'll make the playoffs we might be able to get him for a draft pick. Thoughts?

Isn't Wellwood most similar to Gomez except Gomez is fast and Wellwood is kinda slow. They can both carry the puck a bit and they're play-makers with weak wrist shots. They're both also pretty soft.
