Jones or bust. I don't care that he's a D, and the team has a ton of D prospects already. He's a local kid. Jones or bust.

A+ reasoning.
That argument might work in 5th round+...

We don't have anyone of Jones' caliber. And if we need a player like that in one place more than any other, it's on defense.

The reasoning behind that is it would help on the marketing side. I didn't think I would have to spell that one out.

Dear lord that would be a terrible reason to draft a person. Sure it's a benefit, but it should be the very last thing that matters when making the decision.

You know what's good for marketing? Winning ... that means getting the best person possible. Likely that will be Jones .... but his Dallas ties have nothing to do with that.

Yes, because if it's a center the team would suddenly become good and start winning games.

Not like it wouldn't help.

Why are we debating this? Seth Jones is the best player in the draft and we should take him if we can. Doesn't matter that he was technically born in Texas.

What are you talking about? You're the one that said him being local played a role. I think they should draft Jones at all costs if it's possible, but ti's silly to say marketing should play any role in that decision. It's a nice added benefit, but it's not a good reason to do it.

If Drouin ,Barkov or McKinnon are avaliable when we pick I take one of them. Jones will be good but I have to think with all these d-men now we don't need it as much. Gotta score more and that's something we don't have anywhere right now in our organization really.

Do you think we'll fall that far? Barkov I could believe but I doubt Drouin or Mckinnon will be available when it's our turn. I'm predicting we pick anywhere from the 6th-9th range.

I think Dallas could realistically finish 4th to 10th.

They are only 3 points out of 4th right now.

FYI .... if they finish 4th there is an outside chance they have a shot at one Jones, MacKinnon, or Drouin. It just depends how someone in the 1 to 3 spot feels about the Russian. At 4, you'd assume they'd have their pick of the 2nd tier centers: Barkov, Lindholm, and Monahan.

Yeah I think there's a very good chance we got one of Barkov, Lindolm and Monahan (I'd also rank them in that order).

Hopefully we can find a way to trade for another 1st near the 12th-20th range.

I was actually talking with someone about that last night. In a perfect world, Dallas would get a Top 6 pick, Boston goes to the ECF, and Dallas uses the first and some additional assets to move up and get one of the higher rated right shot, offensive D like Pulock possibly.

At some point, they need to start adding righties.

Yeah I like Pulock as well. If we could manage to get one of the 3 centers plus Pulock then it will be a very very good day for us. Our prospect pool would be in the top 10 IMO if that happens.

Which translates to Bottom 10 on HF ... no love, no love.

Barkov is a first tier center, no doubt about that.

My ideal scenario would be use snagging Barkov at 4th overall, and then trading 27-30th + 34th + something else to move back into the top 15 and get a RHD, preferably Ristolainen.

Barkov + Ristolainen would pretty much leave us set. Sucks its only a daydream.

That's one of the few scenarios I'd be in favor of trading up for. I desperately want Barkov and there's a good chance Ristolainen is there in the mid to late teens and he'd be such a good option to finally trade up to nab.

This plan gets my vote.

Oh and can someone come hold my hand and tell me this year will be alright. I look back at last year's draft and outside of Shore have a big meh response. I didn't want Faska and his injury certainly didn't make me feel better. Lots of seconds and possibly another first don't mean much if Gemel Smith is the best we've got to show for it, outside of Shore.

Can I ask why you didn't want Faksa and who you think we should've taken?

I really wanted Grigorenko but Buffalo took him in front of us. After that I was rather ambivalent but prefered Teravainen.

I've just never had a good feeling about Faska and thus have never liked the pick. It didn't help that we then drafted several Euro's and there aren't a lot of good updates about them and most struggle to get time on their parent club's lineups as teenagers so I have a negative overall reaction to our 2012 draft. So I need someone to tell me I'm way off and why so I'll feel better not just about that draft but this one coming up.
