Since 2004, here's the list of players drafted by teams where the pick at one point was traded by Sather. Keep in mind the rounds vary, and there's no way of knowing who Sather would have drafted had he kept the pick.

Viktor Loov
Marek Mazanec
Travis Brown
Brendan Leipsic
Zack Larraza
Daniil Sobchencko
Logan Shaw
Tyler Wotherspoon
Markus Granlund
Tanner Lane
Jordan Weal
Kenny Ryan
Nick Oliver
Andy Bathgate
Corey Fienhage
Janne Laujanen
Robert Bortuzzo
Brett Bruneteau
John DeGray
Niclas Andersen
Martin Nolet
Ondrej Pavelec
Guillaume Latendresse
Fredrick Naslund
Roman Kukemberg
Matt Schneider (not that one)
Matt Greer
Brian Mahoney-Wilson

You're right. It's so "novel" that the team has been trying to do it for a while now. Callahan, Dubi, Miller, Byers, Weise . . . Want to know something? It's incredibly hard to find guys like Clowe. You can postulate about this all you want, except you also need to realize that it's insanely hard to find guys like him in the draft. If they are hyped, they go in the top 15 (why do you think we drafted McIlrath in the top 10?) or 20 players. If they are not, than they usually turn into 4th liners or nothing at all.

I love the belief that we can just go out there and draft guys like this whenever we want. Boy, if that were the case, don't you think we'd have a team full of tough mother****ers who can put up 50 points a year?

An awe-inspiring list if there ever was one.

Of course he doesn't want to be a rental. He wants sather to throw him some money so he can take the easy road to retirement starting in Rangerland...

It all seems so familiar...

Why put him on a line that Zucc was playing well on ? Don't rock the boat

For all we know Zucc could play on Stepans line. Third line Hagelin - Boyle - Callahan.

Why would they break up the Stepan line after what they did last game?

About the best post I've read on this topic in a long while.

From reading these boards you would think there is a "Tough Mother $%^&*#" tree out in Clark's back yard that he can pick from when ever the Rangers need to fill that role. Amazing.

Yeah 'whenever we want', thats exactly what I'm saying.

Btw, were you the one who said Brandon Saad was garbage? Been waiting to see what you were gonna say about him now that he's an NHL'er.

Means nothing.

List all the players within 10 picks of all those players, that'll make more sense.

TSN had a segment on 2nd round picks. From 2000-2010. 54% of the players taken never played in the NHL. 18% became top 6 forwards. From 2009-2012. 3 players have made an impact. ROR,Faulk and Saad.

What a shock, Pizza, one of the biggest Ranger apologists on the board doesn't agree with me, haha.

I would be in favor of:

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Clowe-Richards-Gaborik
MZA-Boyle-Miller
Pyatt-Powe-Asham

Zuccarello and Boyle had chemistry last year. Let Zucc control the puck and create plays, Boyle and Miller can do the dirty work.

Rationalization, again.

Why have scouts? Why draft at all? Why not trade every pick, the percentages say so right?

Numbers on paper, constant stat watching, this board is priceless.

They shouldn't. But it is a possibility with Clowe coming in. Anyway Zucc seems to have some chemistry with Boyle, so that could work too.

So what are you saying? You make it sound so easy to find guys like this. We've been trying to do it for ages now. Clowe was a relatively lucky pick in the 6th round. If it's such a "novel idea," perhaps you could explain why our team tries to do it draft in, draft out. Clearly it's not a "novel idea."

On Saad: I'll wait and see if he contines it. Saad looks good. Don't be so arrogant here, though, because I've never been one to be unable to admit to being wrong. I am correct quite often, but like everyone else I have been wrong many times as well. FWIW, Wolski (my comparison for him and I still view it that way -- funnily enough, they are on pace for similar points) was great for a while, too.

Great ad hominem, though, Bluenote.

He's played great, but that line hasn't really produced. At this point it's about finding the right combos that can put the puck in the net. I have no issue with having a PF like Clowe out there with Richards - Gabby to create space for them. Leave the first line like it was last game, and put Zucc with Boyle/Miller and Hagelin. The lack of creativity in the bottom 6 has hurt this team all season.

Why would Hagelin be bumped up? He's been quite mediocre lately. Where is Callahan?

Uh, that line played the best it has all season with him on it. So perhaps it deserves more than a try before it's broken up?

I think the Rangers, especially since Clark and Gorton got here, have been trying to make this team harder and more difficult to play against. They lost some of that over the off-season and I think that really bothers them.

I don't doubt it. The thing I like about Clowe is that he is a mix of both Dubi and Prust. They are trying to replace two players with one.
