Wanted him for awhile. Nothing flashy, but physical guy that can win a draw.

6'3", RH, 54.8% on draw. Decent pickup. It's what we need.

Faceoffs are good, how about toughness and size?

Good move. Good at FO's and gritty.

He's an excellent 4th line centerman. MacT talked alot about the Oilers needing a big centerman when he was working on the TSN panel a couple years ago, and I wonder how much input he had on this deal (Smithson being a RHS and 6'3", >200lbs).

a 5th would've been better, but I don't mind giving up a 4th for Smithson.

He is your ideal 4th line center. Plays PK, has 80+ hits is 54.8% on the draw. He is what we needed for a long time.

Big and can win faceoffs. Good pickup for low cost. With Belanger out and probably not in the plans at all we need someones that can win a draw.

Nice!

He's got decent size too. Don't really know a lot about him though.

Well the rumours were about a veteran forward... As long as he has a better impact than the average 4th rounder then i'm ok with it.

Good on faceoffs,
81 hits (2nd on the Panthers).
2 minutes a night on the PK although that isn't necessarily a good thing, Florida has the worst PK in the league.
6'3 veteran.
Zero offense
Doesn't fight

Seems like an okay pick up to me.

Good move. UFA after this season, but current cap hit is only $800K. Can win face-offs and his offense is realistically better than Belanger has given us. If Tambellini can turn Belanger into something better than a 4th round pick, I'd say he's done a very good job.

*goes on to list the 5-6 guys in 10 years*

A rental C....who can play PK....who can hardly play really....

My guess is Belanger and/or Petrell are gone very soon.

UFA
Not a long term solution but I'm happy if it means the end of Belanger.

Cool. Solid pickup.
I guess Belanger is finished here, maybe on IR for the rest of the season?
The question now is.... Who goes to the pressbox? Brown? Petrell?
I have a feeling that Tambellini might ship out a forward now, maybe Jones.
