I've heard of him. He's been on Nashville forever.

Lots of people have never heard of 4th line pluggers

Doesn't mean they aren't nhlers

Hardly. This is actually a decent rental move.
Smithson is big and good on draws.

Good pickup. Nothing great, but a gooddecent sized gritty forward. Plus, Smithson is terrific in faceoffs. I remember his faceoff's in NHL 12 were like 95 or something lol. This team needs grit and Smithson is a much better 4th liner than Belanger.

Hoping to see more this afternoon from Tambellini(or ever the rest of the league), but this is a good pick-up.

Hmm, as i hear about him it seems like a good move
Belanger done, it would be better keep lander in the ahl and smyth not a good center so this guy could step into our fourth line giving depth down the middle and being good on draws is huge for us

He can play all three forward positions, and is an obvious upgrade on Belanger and Smyth at center. No complaints from me, but when I heard Florida/Edmonton on TSN, was really hoping it was Hemsky/Gernat/1st for Kulikov.

And yet I bet you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who could say they have any memory of seeing him play. Including his teammates.

Why didn't they do this 2 months ago when they ran out of centers?

Some of the guys on the florida board seem sad to see him go, that's always a nice sign.

Tamblowe this season> Tamblowe previous years... Not that I want them to stick around, but just to be fair.

Yeah, you're alone on this. Only on HF do some of you guys nitpick every single freaking move.
The Oilers had Smyth playing center the last while, Smyth isn't a center. There was a need and they brought in a guy who can win faceoffs, be a little physical and play the PK. I don't see the problem here.

Brown, Smithson and Petrell is going to be a pain to play against. It's been a while since you could say that about the Oilers.

Like it! I remember him playing with Nashville and he was a depth player who would assert himself in games against us.

He's got size and he knows how to use it. I'm certain he will be a big upgrade on Beloseger.

Agreed.

Smithson gives us a good right hand FO man to help out Horcoff and be a physical defensive 4th line fwd that can do PK.

I can't believe Tambo didn't package that 4th round pick w/ Whitney for a top 4 puck mover

I like this trade if it means the Circle is on his way out. Imagine, a real C for our 4th line.

What's not to like about this move?

Give up a 4th round pick which probably won't turn into anything, and in return we get a true 4C (not a 3C playing terribly and forced down the depth chart). I think that we can all agree that this is not a big time move, but if this means being able to rid us of Belanger for good, then I think if's a great move.

Who said there was a problem? Only issue I see is that these types of guys seem to be a dime a dozen and available on waivers all the time, so not sure why they needed to spend an asset. But trading a nothing pick for a nobody is about as meh a move as one can imagine.

Definitely makes me think something else is in the works around Petrell/Jones/Belanger. Fill better about losing one of the 1st two guys if Smithson has some PK skills, not just happened to be a guy used in that role.
